I'm going to apply for jobs at Utah State and Alabama, and looking for advice on USU and the city of Logan, and University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa. I live in Virginia, but have relatives in Utah and have been there a few times, but only to the SLC area which is mostly desert. Well, desert compared to Virginia that is. I hear that Logan - on the northern border by Idaho - isn't desert, but mountainous which is better. I've been to Birmingham once, which is the biggest city close to Tuscaloosa. Alabama would be closer to everyone and everything I know. But the deep south might be a little different than the low-key-2-hours-from-DC south. Anything special you all can tell me about the Alabama and USU campuses or Logan or Tuscaloosa in general? For someone in their young 20s.... Thanks!
And I know all I talked about was the climate, but I'd like to know about the general student atmosphere, athletics, the city itself, money, housing, eating, you know all that stuff.

I've been to Tuscaloosa a few times. Like most cities in Alabama, it's basically in the middle of nowhere. It's a true college town though, wonderful environment. Beautiful campus, great school spirit, most of their athletic facilities are top notch. Saturdays in the SEC are a thing to behold. If you've never experienced a football game on an SEC campus(save for Vanderbilt), you are missing out. Friendly people, low cost of living, not sure about the housing, but there's all sorts of dining, every chain restaurant, plenty of shopping, and the best ribs in the world, if you ask me, at Dreamland BBQ restaurant. It's world famous and if you go to Tuscaloosa, you must eat there. It's really not much different than most college towns in the SEC. Not a real big town, but plenty to see and do. It's not much, but hope it helps. www.tcvb.org/www.ua.edu/aboutua.html
