Watch and see, I will laugh in your face when it's made official.... You don't even know the player's name. I'm more impressed with the incoming class than this player coming!

Your unable to identify her yet you managed to pinpoint her height? Did you tape measure her while she was looking in the other direction? Well I'm 6'2, she was a little taller than me ?... Doesn't take a rocket science to determine that... Its not rocket science to politely ask someone their name as well, especially if your "meeting" them for the first time. But I'm sure you had your logical reasons........

I told you, it's hard to tell from 50 feet away. I'm sure they enjoyed "meeting" him too tho.

Watch and see, I will laugh in your face when it's made official.... I don't doubt that you probably saw who it was while she was making her unofficial... however, don't make claims that "I know" who it is when in fact you don't know who it is nor did you actually "meet" them because when I meet someone... their name is probably one of the first things that we exchange in something we call a "conversation"

Shoji on board through 2017 seasonBy Ferd Lewis, Honolulu Star-AdvertiserPOSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Mar 31, 2015 JAMM AQUINO / 2014 Dave Shoji's salary is believed to be around $185,000.Dave Shoji and the University of Hawaii have reached an agreement in principle that will keep one of college volleyball's winningest coaches at the school through the 2017 season. The contract will require approval of the Board of Regents since the salary will exceed the $150,000 threshold. The 68-year-old Shoji is 1,150-196-1 in 40 seasons with four national championships. Penn State's Russ Rose passed Shoji last season as the all-time career victories leader in NCAA Division I women's volleyball; Rose is 1,161-180 in 36 seasons with seven titles. "We've come to a verbal agreement on a new contract, a three-year extension," athletic director Ben Jay confirmed Monday. "We're in the process of getting the paperwork done." Jay declined to say how much of a salary increase Shoji will receive until terms have been approved but described it as "a bump." Shoji is believed to be making about $185,000. The Rainbow Wahine were 22-7 last season. "From a recruiting standpoint, from a longevity standpoint, it (the extension) makes sense," Jay said. "Dave is not done coaching and I think he is very excited about the team he has coming back and the recruits he has coming in the fall."

Despite 3-year deal, Shoji not sure he’ll stay to the end
By Ferd Lewis, Honolulu Star-Advertiser
POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Apr 02, 2015
Penn State’s Russ Rose is the all-time winningest major college coach in women’s volleyball, having supplanted Dave Shoji for the distinction in 2014.
But word of Shoji’s pending new three-year contract doesn’t have Rose hugging his 11-victory (1,161-1,150) lead and nervously listening for footsteps across six time zones.
“I’m not thinking that Dave is signing his new contract with the hopes of passing me,” Rose said.
“Although ... they gave Dave a nice ceremony and gifts when he passed Andy (Banachowski of UCLA to become No. 1 in 2013) so, maybe, if I retire before he does he can go ahead and get some more gifts and treats,” Rose said, tongue in close proximity to his cheek.
“Then, I would have to sit back and applaud him,” Rose said.
Probably from a rocking chair.
The 68-year-old Shoji has seven years on Rose, 61, who says, “I don’t know about him, but I’m going to tell you, for sure, that I’m not coaching when I’m 72.”
Rose said, “the game has changed, recruiting is changing and I know, at 61, I don’t relate as well to 16-year-old girls as well as I did when I was 25.”
Just how much longer Shoji will continue remains an open question. If he completes the three-year deal and goes deep into the 2017 NCAA Championships, to his Dec. 4 birthday, Shoji would be 72.
Yet he is not the senior member of the fraternity now and might not be even then. Southern California’s Mick Haley is 71 and has shown little signs of heading to pasture. “Mick has no intention of quitting anytime soon, as far as I know,” Shoji said somewhat admiringly.
As he prepares to start his 41st season, Shoji maintains, as he has for the past several, that his stay at UH has become an annual decision. “My contract was running out and Ben (Jay) was gracious enough to make it a three-year deal even though I told him I’m not committed to going the full three,” Shoji said. “It is still up to me how long I go. I’ve said before — and I’ll say it again — that’s going to be a year-to-year decision.”
This year the incoming recruits and returning foundation of a team that went 22-7 undoubtedly helped. Shoji said his health, state of the team and family considerations all weigh in the decision.
He knows, too, that just keeping Rose in sight, much less making up ground, is a daunting task. The Nittany Lions’ coach of 36 seasons is on a run remarkable in the sport’s history, one that has enabled him to move atop the all-time victory list by averaging 33 victories a season over the past 12 years.
In the process, Rose, who has won seven national championships, has captured the past two in succession and six of the past eight. It is an ascension that has given him admiration for the man he passed.
Rose said, “Whenever Dave decides to retire, he’s earned it. He’s already done a lot — for the sport and his school. He’s made great contributions to volleyball, made great contributions to sports in Hawaii and, with his wife, has done an even finer job of raising three great children. He’s set the bar pretty high for the younger coaches in this profession.”

Adjustments are key for returnees
By Cindy Luis, Honolulu Star-Advertiser
POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Apr 02, 2015
The transition game is key in volleyball when moving from defense to offense during a rally.
It is no different when players are transitioning from one sport to another, one from basketball to volleyball and one from sand volleyball to the indoor game.
It is the case with the Hawaii women's indoor volleyball team that is back to having all 12 returning players in the practice gym.
Freshman outside hitter Megan Huff joined the Rainbow Wahine earlier this week after a successful stint with the basketball team and sophomore hitter Nikki Taylor returned from a road trip with the No. 2 SandBows, where she teamed with Brittany Tiegs to win the pairs portion of the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Collegiate Challenge.
Making the bigger adjustment is Huff, who admittedly hasn't touched a volleyball since Christmas.
"I feel a little rusty," said the Big West Sixth Woman awardee in basketball. "I've missed volleyball.
"I still need to work on stuff. I feel good, am in better shape but it is different. There is more jumping now (with volleyball)."
Taylor has been jumping from one playing surface to another for several weeks, often doubling up with morning indoor workouts and afternoon sand. It was something she did last spring en route to All-American sand honors in her first serious foray into the sport.
"Nikki probably is a little fatigued but she understands that she has to go through this," Hawaii coach Dave Shoji said. "Sand is so demanding. You've got to do every skill almost every rally.
"She's doing everything (with sand) that will help her indoors."
The Rainbow Wahine return a dozen players from the team that went 22-7. The focus in spring is on conditioning and skills.
"We've been working really hard," junior middle Oliva Magill said. "It's nice to be in the gym instead of just lifting weights.
"It's nice to have (Huff) back. We've missed her. We miss our seniors but most of us are back. I think we've all grown during spring."
The team bonding will continue next month when the Rainbow Wahine embark on their first training trip to Europe with stops in Italy, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Hawaii is tentatively scheduled to play two matches in each country against club teams between May 18 and 27.
"Europe is going to be a really good experience for us," Magill said.
Until then, it's skills, drills and weights in Manoa.
"We still need to be fundamentally stronger, that's the goal right now," said Shoji, who has agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension through 2017. "Our team has made a lot of progress in the weight room so physically we're pretty good. With everyone getting better skill-wise we'll be better as a team."

It won't be as bad as Tuesday but we'll be stuck in the same old, third-worst-in-the-nation traffic this afternoon.
