Dalton did have surgery again. She posted a pic for the hospital on her instagram. Was the surgery for the same hip?She said it was another hip surgery on her left side… I don't remember which side it was before.

This is not a good scenario because arthritis, if it already has not become a problem will set in at some point and could definitely affect her mobility during her remaining tenure at Texas.

Just a damn shame. Wonder if her injuries are related to being so tall and thin or just bad luck. Either way, just another example of what young athletes face competing at such a high level.
As for Texas Volleyball, this is not good for the 2015 season - presuming she is not ready. Just a bad combination with so many young outside hitters; a short setter; Hattis and Mirta not being reliable contributors and Baker's injuries. Starting to remind me of the injury situation that the Oklahoma Thunder has faced this season with the injury to Durant and know Ibaka. Looking like a lost season for the Thunder.
I would love to know what Elliott is thinking and planning for the setter position. Maybe he will have something to say with the meet and greet with season ticket holders before the SMU match on April 3.

I believe this will be Dalton's second surgery on the left hip. Prior to that, she had surgery on both hips.
Looking at the team's most recent Instagram pics, Baker still isn't jumping/hitting...she's not even dressed out to pepper. If she isn't going to contribute this year on the front (her back row was serviceable for a 6 rotation hitter, but I can't see her as a DS), I'd like to see her get a medical hardship scholarship to finish her academic career.
That would then open up a scholarship for a transfer setter to come in and compete with Chloe in a 5-1 or share setting duties in a 6-2.

Well from what I have heard, all our grumbling in the offseason has paid off.
Heard Collins was pretty good in the 5-1 (saw some pictures and her hands were exactly where Ogbogu's were; on a block I think she just needs to work on being a better blocker more than her height is actually hindering her)
Paulina's passing was pretty good as well from what I heard, as well as having the third most receptions with only 1 RE. She had wayyyy too many hitting errors, but I think once everyone gets more used to the faster offense, things will even out a bit more. I think she will be on the left this upcoming season.
Brooks had quite a few digs as the backup libero, and we always need quality play from our DS! I think she will be a good DS for Yazzie, who I am predicting to be on the right next year.
Depending on where White is in the fall defensively I think she has the potential to be a 6 rotation player (although maybe not this year). Based on this (plus hearing of Dalton's surgery), my prediction for the fall lineup is:
OH: Paulina OH: White (possible Neal DS) MB: Ogbogu MB: McCage RS: Yazzie (Brooks DS) S: Collins L: McCoy

The team lost 3-1 in a spring match. And you are making assessments over a couple of pictures you saw!
I can make assumptions also - Collins averaged 8.5 assists running the 5-1. Was this poor average running a 5-1 because of:
1)her poor setting to the hitters? 2)her hitters making bad hits off her good sets? 3)a combination of both?
The team hit .164. Chiaka had 6 kills and 4 errors. But Chiaka & Collins' hands were the same!
Take a look at Collin's block performance - 1 block and 2 block errors.
How many kills in Hawaii's 3-1 win were by Hawaii's outsides over Collins?
See, I can make assumptions also.
But I prefer to follow Elliott's take on the match:
We have been really limited in numbers in our practices, so it was the first time we have actually seen an offense come at us. With our new offense, there were some streaks of consistency and some streaks that hurt us at times, but that is expected this time of year, especially with everything being new. We had some opportunities to win game four and didn't take advantage of that. There were some good things that we can take away from the match and we will watch the film when we get back and it will be a real positive for us.
BTW, If moral victories after a loss ever become the state of the Texas Volleyball program we have officially become Baylor VB.

But what did you expect with players that hadn't played some positions in a year or more with an offense none of them had ever ran in college. This is the spring and we don't have many players. I don't think anything I said is a for sure thing, but I do think Collins will run the 5-1 unless Dalton heals over a summer. I do think Paulina will play on the left unless they run said 6-2. And there was a comment made that a lot of the errors made by the hitters was not from the setting. Why are you always so negative about Texas? Of course losing isn't ideal, but it's a spring game and the offseason. What more can we do besides speculate and watch spring games?

And I call them as I see them! What do you want me to say? Everyone sucks? Texas will never be the same? We have a lot of dehabilitating injuries to key players and it has really hurt us. I do think next year will be a down year, but a down year for Texas is still probably in the top 10. I'm not trying to water down the fact that we will probably have a down year, just to look at what we do have for the season ahead in a more positive light! On an unrelated note, do you think Dalton will be ready to go by fall or do you think we'll get a transfer in the summer? I think it's very dangerous to only have one setter on the roster.

It was the first spring volleyball match on the road in Hawaii after a lot of fun at the beach. If you read my comments in the match thread, I think you would see I took it as a spring match and was realistic about our play. I wouldn't have had anything more to say about the match, but your over the top praise about Collins based on pictures needed a heavy does of realism to be applied.
And I'm a big fan of Prieto, but there was little in her play last night that gives much hope of her being a 6 rotation OH player. BUT, it's early with plenty of time for her and the team to improve.
I am looking forward to watching the team in person in 2 weeks against a decent SMU team - that is if they didn't lose many key seniors.

I understand about Collins, I am just really hopeful for her as she is one of my favorites! However I don't get how you got that from Paulina. She was tied for third on the team in digs (tied with Collins and only one less than Neal) and only had one receiving error. I don't see where this doesn't give much hope!

Say whatever you want - it's your opinion but expect some push back when you say all questions about Collins running the 5-1 have been answered after the first spring match and her stats and that of the hitters don't back that up. And I am pulling for her. At the end of the '14 season, I said she had set better than Dalton. But for me that doesn't translate to Texas being better off with Collins setting from the front row.
I don't know enough about Dalton's injury / surgery, but it appears she may not be ready for the '15 season. Elliott must have another good setter to either run the 6-2 or be available in case of injury to Collins.
