I am not negative about Texas. It was the first spring volleyball match on the road in Hawaii after a lot of fun at the beach. If you read my comments in the match thread, I think you would see I took it as a spring match and was realistic about our play. I wouldn't have had anything more to say about the match, but your over the top praise about Collins based on pictures needed a heavy does of realism to be applied.
And I'm a big fan of Prieto, but there was little in her play last night that gives much hope of her being a 6 rotation OH player. BUT, it's early with plenty of time for her and the team to improve.
I am looking forward to watching the team in person in 2 weeks against a decent SMU team - that is if they didn't lose many key seniors. I understand about Collins, I am just really hopeful for her as she is one of my favorites! However I don't get how you got that from Paulina. She was tied for third on the team in digs (tied with Collins and only one less than Neal) and only had one receiving error. I don't see where this doesn't give much hope! Neither of us were at the match of course, but I am drawing some conclusions from Collins' 8.5 assists per set and the hitter's poor hitting percentage. It's an indication to me the passing may not have been that effective. As for Prieto's digs, that may have been a product of where Hawaii was hitting. Who knows, they may have been targeting Prieto. I would.
My guess as of now is that Prieto will be on the RS with Neal at OH. That may change with off season practices, especially with the freshmen enroll in June.

Up to this point prieto has shown moments she can be great but throughout her whole career so far she has been widely inconsistant.

A good article in today's Austin American Statesman about the volleyball program.
Lexi Sunn's commitment to Texas was discussed along with the new practice facility and the trip to Hawaii.
Of special interest:
The 3 2015 recruits will arrive on campus in July (second summer session); Baker is likely done playing volleyball due to her injuries; McCoy has a foot injury and will not be playing with the junior national team this summer; Dalton's hip injury is not significant. The author did not reference her surgery.
Hope the news about Dalton is correct. Texas sports notebook: Volleyball, in spring?

Thanks for the summary.....I could not read the article because it was a premium content article.
Did it specifically talk about Baker being done or just how she was not practicing still? I think she is done as well and wish they would just announce her retirement.

I think she is done as well and wish they would just announce her retirement. "...Setter Nicole Dalton (hip) did not make the trip, and middle blocker Sara Hattis is playing basketball for the Sweet 16-bound Longhorns. McCoy traveled but did not play because of a foot injury that will also prevent her from participating on the U.S. junior national team this summer.
The injuries to Dalton and McCoy are not thought to be significant. The same cannot be said of outside hitter Tiffany Baker, who has battled numerous ailments dating back to the start of her career at Tennessee and is unlikely to play again in college.
“We care more about her as a person than as a volleyball player,” Elliott said.
The Longhorns will stick around Texas for the remainder of the spring, beginning with a home match against SMU on April 3."

Thanks!
Well with Elliott's comment that's as good as official. Now we no longer have to speculate about her status.
If she is no longer on an athletic scholarship that opens a scholarship.

I'll be curious as to who's gonna call the match on LHN this Saturday evening against SMU as both Nell Fortner and Paul Sunderland might be calling women's hoops regionals broadcasts for ESPN; they were calling some of the sub-regionals this past weekend. Whoever it is, they might make some comments about Baker if they speak with Jerritt prior to the match.

Season ticket holders are receiving a tour of the new facilities before the match and there is a get together with the coaches also before the match. Elliott will probably address the group and take questions.

So assuming Baker goes on a medical hardship scholarship, does Elliot transfer in another setter in case Dalton is unable to play in the fall or does he bring in another OH knowing what he already has with Neal, Prieto, White, and YBG on the pins?

Strictly my opinion, but I think there will be further attrition aside from Baker possibly going on a medical hardship. Doesn't sound like Dalton's injury will prevent her from playing in 2015, but I could be completely wrong. Her health probably drives what position needs to be addressed, if any, for a possible new signee/transfer.
