So I was thinking of possible setting transfers for Texas, and one came to mind that would make a lot of sense! Disclaimer: I know nothing about who is actually transferring, just thinking of possibilities! What about Stephanie Aiple at Texas A&M? She is from Austin, is a really good setter, and has height and physicality. Also would not have to sit out a year since A&M is in the SEC. That scholarship sailed a long time ago. Selected as an Honorable All American as a freshman, she's in a good situation at a rising A&M volleyball program.
My aggie friends acquaintances tell me that she's dealing with some nagging injury issues of her own.

I would think it is best not to discuss players that are not seeking a transfer...seems a bit inappropriate regardless what school that a player is at.

Does Texas have one scholarship or two available? I realize no one probably knows for sure, but I would think two. Hattis was on basketball scholarship because they were over by one. So she doesn't free one up. Pilar transferred and Baker retired. Does Baker's still count against the limit? If Baker retired for medical reasons, she could've signed a medical non-counter agreement, which would allow the school to continue to fund her scholarship, but have her no longer count against their 12 scholarship limit.

I think it depends. If McCoy is on scholarship, which I believe she is, we only have one. McCage Prieto-Cerame Dalton McCoy Baselovic Collins Ogbogu Neal White Bedart-Ghani Johnson One if Brooks continues as a walk-on in '15. Is Mirta staying at Texas?I would not be surprised to see Mirta leave as our strongest position over the next few years will be at middle blocker and I just do not see her competing enough for that position. Although I've heard she's very good friends with the team, so that might make her want to stay.

I don't see how this team can make it through the season without a decent setter. I would hate to see both setters unable to play at some point next season (if injury would occur) and then the team resorts to the next best all around player having to set.

If Texas chooses to run a 5-1, Collins is an excellent choice and they'll be exceptionally good.

I would think that Ebony looking at various schools would be looking at the setter position very carefully i.e. Carlini, Hunter? Texas is a little up in the air at setter, expecially with Dalton's bad luck with her health. Especially if you run a 6-2 like Elliot likes, but then who knows if Ebony would play Middle or RS. Just more info for her to consider.

So do we try and recruit a walk-on setter this late in the 2015 year and get Nwanebu or go after a top setting transfer and miss Nwanebu? Or just hope Collins doesn't get hurt again/hope Dalton comes back okay?

I would hate to see both setters unable to play at some point next season (if injury would occur) and then the team resorts to the next best all around player having to set. Elliott does not want to run a 5-1 behind Collins. He's made that clear in interviews the past 2 seasons. He wants to advance to the regionals and the final 4 and win a 2nd national championship. Take a look at the athletes Elliott is recruiting for the setter and hitting positions for '15, '16, '17 . . . & you can see he is preparing the program to get over the disappointment (For Texas) of the past 2 seasons. Once you win a national championship, you want more. Not reaching the Final 4 is a disappointment for Elliott as it should be. I believe the days of the 5'7" setter and 5'10" hitters are gone. The type of players he is bringing into the program indicates to me that the future looks very bright for Texas Volleyball. I hope I am wrong, but I think 2015 could be a transition season for Texas and that Texas could struggle to reach the regionals unless 1 or 2 of the freshmen can play at the freshmen levels of Faucette and Eckerman. And Dalton being healthy or another setter to complement Collins in a 6-2 is needed, imo.

Texas has Got to get a setter to help run the 6-2 next season. Collins will not be effective the tourney with the 5-1. Her blocking will be tooled by all the 6'4's all night long.

In what interviews did Elliott say that he does not want to run a 5-1 with Collins in 2015? Do you have links to these interviews?
