I hope we get a BIG transfer but really hoping the freshman can come in and play big roles. Texas will need at least one to play at a high level like Mary Kate from OSU did. Definitely need a freshman to be like Faucette or Eckerman. A medical redshirt for Baker would free up that spot for a top transfer. Elliott cannot make program decisions just to make both setters happy. We will see if a healthy Dalton can reach her potential, but a healthy Dalton means zilch if she will not set her middles they way Collins did this season. At the end of the season, Collins was the most consistent setter and with her quickness, would be the best setter in a 5-1 (like Moriarty) except for her height. But her height is a major problem for this program. Like Neal, Texas can get away with it against most opponents, but will be exploited against top teams. Hopefully, Elliott is reevaluating his recruiting decisions and the makeup of roster positions for the future. His setter decision for 2017 seems to be a good step forward. I agree with all of this. I think 2016 and on will be especially better ball control-wise, and 2017 setter-wise. 2015 could be either great or average I think depending on those two factors.

If Baker's best play during the season was during that match against the Chinese exhibition match, I am not impressed. That Chinese team was not good. As I recall they were missing 3 of their top players. I do not understand why Baker was offered a scholarship to play volleyball at Texas. If I remember correctly, she transferred from Tennessee during the off season and then misses spring workouts, etc because she needed surgery? And she's not fully recovered so she basically took up a roster spot this season.
In hindsight, could Elliott have brought in a reliable outside hitter that would have provided competition to Neal and Pilar?
And my question is whether volleyball programs require transfers to pass a physical before being offered a scholarship? I agree Baker will never become a go to hitter, but if she passes consistently and terminates semi-consistently she could be a good right side hitter. I think she already passes fairly well along with having good blocking and being tall. I could see her playing all 6 rotations as an Opp next year. Now that Eckerman is gone, we can speed up the offense significantly which benefits almost every other player on the roster, including the setters. If Dalton/Baker can get healthy I see Texas just reloading, not rebuilding. With more consistent passing and a healthier Dalton/Baker, we can spread out the offense even more and become a more middle centric team until White/Neal/Pilar become more consistent. Crazy if you think Baker passes well.

Sarah Hattis just joined the basketball team which frees up a scholarship!!! Does it? She was on a basketball scholarship for 2013-14.
Or is she just taking up the basketball roster spot that we were told was going to Khat Bell? Weren't we told this was the scholarship that was freed up for Prieto?

An unhealthy Baker is absolutely a waste of a scholarship. But this was on the premise of if Baker is healthy next year

We are only going to know Baker's volleyball potential if she is healthy.

Hattis went on basketball scholarship after her first season of volleyball, which was 2012-13. She did not play basketball in 2013-14; have no idea if she was still on a hoops 'ship and perhaps redshirted; she was never listed on the 2013-14 roster.
If you think about it, there would have been no need for Coach Aston to have put out an official release yesterday if Sara had remained part of the basketball program without interruption . . .

Is Bell joining next year?
Didn't Heather Schrieber do kind of that but in reverse? (Four years for basketball, one for volleyball.)

Pretty sure Bell is going to play pro overseas.
