Well I'm back home from the match. It was odd being at Hec Ed after the Huskies had been knocked out. The BYU and Nebraska rooters were enthusiastic, and it certainly didn't feel empty or anything. But it didn't feel like a Husky volleyball match either. One thing I noticed about Hamson is that most hitters either swing for the court or swing to hit the blocker's fingers, but she can do both. She is hitting from such a high contact point that it looks like she can aim for the blockers' fingers and still get the ball in the court if there is no touch. The programs that were passed out listed #3 Alohi Robins-Hardy as an OH. I was sure she had been their setter last night, but that had me all confused. However, I had remembered it correctly, and she was their setter tonight too. But she's listed on the BYU roster as OH. What's up with that? There must be some story there. Anyway, I was sad all match, because I wanted to see UW/BYU. Oh well. At least the Huskies can say they have wins over two teams in the Final Four. Could have been three if Wisconsin had won. Both Hamson and Gray hit at the top of the set, contact the ball at a high point, which is hard to stop. Just like standing on a ladder and hitting the ball straight down onto the floor.

I undertand your point. Hudson shouldn't have won. But was just stating why she did. So what was my point? If I'm reading it correctly, that the best player doesn't always win it. My apologies if I'm wrong

Very impressed with BYU. Congrats to the Cougars for earning a Final Four berth as they are very deserving.

Congrats to BYU. For what it's worth, after I saw the trouble FSU had vs. the BYU block, I thought UW would have had a lot of trouble tonight even had they beaten Nebraska last night.

Haha! Alexa Gray is a great player, but you would think they would give it to Hamson being a 6-rotation player and all. Plus, her overall stats were way better than Gray's. I would also ask the same about the Big West POY. Why was it given to Hudson when clearly either Magill or Okpala were better? Well, the reason I asked was based on stats Hamson had a better year than Alexa. Hamson is a 6-rotation player versus Alexa who only plays front row. BYU won the WCC. As for Hudson, I was not able to follow much of the season because of the time difference from living overseas. But since she Quarterbacked Long Beach State to an undefeated season and the 2nd best hitting % in the BWC, it's expected that an LBSU player would win the POY award. I'm sure the coaches awarded much of LBSU's success due to her leading them back to the NCAA tournament unlike last year, where they finished 4th in the league. Regardless, I honestly think that based on overall stats in WCC, Hamson should have been POY over Gray.

I've seen that banner!: Nebraska volleyball under John Cook. That doesn't even make sense since he's been there less than 15 years.

If I'm reading it correctly, that the best player doesn't always win it. My apologies if I'm wrong Wiz, was referring to the Hamson/Gray debate, which is a valid one, regarding the WCC POY, either one would be a good choice, and both made All-Region. As compared to the Big West where Olivia Magill, Chisom Okpala, and Casey Hinger made All-Region, and the Big West Player of the Year (Hudson), barely made it onto the Honorable Mentions list.

They are on cloud 9, and now focusing on winning the national semifinals against Texas and moving on to the Title match against either Stanford or Penn State.

My observations for being at the game.
BYU travels extremely well and were very very loud. Granted they pretty much controlled the match from the get go and its easy to cheer when things are going your way.
Nebraska looked like they were playing not to lose and didn't play loose. Look at there body language against UW, they were smiling and having fun, relaxed and joking wwith each other. It didn't seem like they ever smiled the whole match.
As far as the game, for the most part BYU passing was lights out. And add that byu did to Nebraska what Nebraska did to UW. Tooled blocks all night long, and controlled the net.

Man this BYU team is good. How did they get swept by Santa Clara?? Would anybody be surprised if BYU were to knock off Texas and reach the final match? The level of completion goes up. Texas psu and Stanford play at extremely high lvl. All three are way more potent then Nebraska. I don't expect any more matches looking that easy for byu. The other three left are strong in most aspects of game

It's not that BYU travels well, it's the local alumni and church members that show up wherever BYU plays ... or was it the many wives?

Congrats to BYU! Back in their Mountain West days I always disliked them, as they challenged Utah, which was my favorite team at the time. Nowadays, thanks to the BYU network, I see them play quite regularly and find them to be an extremely well rounded team. So happy for them! Sad that Nebraska couldn't make the Final 4 in some other bracket. What bracket would that be? Means you would have to beat psu Stanford or Texas. It be the same lvl in any of the other three brackets.

I am so Happy they delivered and proved me right with my Bracket. I had them reaching the Regional Finals only to lose to the Huskies. But with Huskers upset last night, I knew they would reach the Final Four. I posted on my Facebook wall that they would Sweep and my friend (a BYU Alumni) doesn't really follow much volleyball was counting on my prediction with a Happy Ending....LOL! If you know what I mean. Haha After watching Alexa Gray and BYU dismantle Hawaii last year. I knew they would be a dangerous team, especially with the addition of Hamson coming back, after missing last year. I just want Stanford to bring the title back to the Pac - 12! LOL
