Hilley named to the USA Youth Training Team. She's playing alongside other setters, Shook, Madison Lilley, and Kathryn Plummer (6'6"!). Yup. Full roster of USAVB GYNTT: www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2015/May/20/Roster-Tabbed-for-Girls-Youth-Training-TeamFinal tryouts to determine the 12-person roster are in late July. Plummer was last year's captain. She will likely get a spot. I'm assuming they take two setters, so it's Shook, Lilley, and Hilley to fight it out for the other spot.

Great for Hilley and UW program... was hoping Loberg would have also been invited to tryouts.
In other news, there was an interesting article one Prepvolleyball.com about young commits and also a thread started here on this topic. The UW program has gained a lot of steam the last 2 years and Shef has been happy to pull the trigger on a lot of sophomore/freshman, which is a slight concern, at least for me. It will be interesting to see how all of these young recruits turn out and where they end their college career, Badgers?
And in other other news, who's seen Ebony on campus....

I'm curious to see how Loberg, Rettke, and Whalen develop these next few years in addition to the progression, and hopefully still-in-the-program group of Duello, Williams, Gillis, Saunders, etc.. Life After Lauren will be interesting yet full of potential. From a defensive perspective--VERY excited to have Dodge and MacDonald a part of this team. With a free scholarship, I still think we're in need of a terminal hitter, but those kids commit so early. I give Sheff a couple of years and we'll have all of the Lexi Suns and Ali Franttis we want.

Did we ever know if/when Briana Holman was in Madison? I believe Nebraska was the only school that blatantly had an article about Briana being on campus. I can't remember if that was before or after she committed, though.

At the time she was shopping around, we didn't have any open scholarships, either. IIRC, she had visits planned at Penn State, Nebraska, and Washington, but canceled her Washington trip after visiting Nebraska because she was sold on them. I don't think we'll hear about Ebony visiting at all unless she commits.

Yes, that is not normally the way Sheffield works. We often don't know (from him anyway) who he is seriously recruiting until the BINGO happens.

How many coaches publicly announce who they are recruiting? Zero, for the most part. It's safe to assume that certain schools are recruiting certain kids, though.

In Nebraska's case, I think it's more that the LJS and OWH make calls and request information.

I don't think we'll have the same revelation at UW, but I could be wrong.

How many coaches publicly announce who they are recruiting? It's not so much the coaches who publicly announce these things, rather the journalists (and others) in local areas who end up writing articles or tweets about the prospects.... but the journalists get their info from the coaches, or someone under the coach. same result, different avenue.

I don't think we'll have the same revelation at UW, but I could be wrong. But hasn't news that Ebony is visiting UW already leaked out? The difference here isn't in recruiting styles of the coaching staffs, but the willingness of local newspapers to use column space potential volleyball recruits.
