This conversation started because news that Ebony was visiting Nebraska leaked out. I don't think we'll have the same revelation at UW, but I could be wrong. But hasn't news that Ebony is visiting UW already leaked out? The difference here isn't in recruiting styles of the coaching staffs, but the willingness of local newspapers to use column space potential volleyball recruits. Not really. It's the willingness of coaches/program staff to comment on the record or on background, the willingness of the reporter to get confirmation if the program staff won't go on the record (and the editor to allow the reporter to spend a ton of time doing it), the willingness of the reporter/editor to write/print stories about recruits that aren't independently corroborated. Dennis Punzel (the State Journal columnist who covers VB & WBB) writes good, thorough articles that are well-sourced. When they're about recruits the program can't officially comment on, he gets the player's club coach and/or high school coach to go on the record. Once or twice he's even gotten Tawa to comment. Punzel doesn't write rumor. He's a good journalist. He also covers a news desk. He doesn't have time for that. Neither does his editor. Additionally, a reporter needs to have a degree of trust with sources he uses regularly. Punzel and Sheffield might have an understanding about what sorts of things are appropriate to write about, and when. He probably knows a lot more than he writes, keeping stuff under his hat until the right time, so as not to irritate the sources he's worked so hard to cultivate. My point is that if Sheffield doesn't think it prudent to have newspaper articles written about prospective players, be they prep or transfer, until those players have at least verballed, he will make that opinion known to the press, who would be wise to respect his wishes.

Great for Hilley and UW program... was hoping Loberg would have also been invited to tryouts. In other news, there was an interesting article one Prepvolleyball.com about young commits and also a thread started here on this topic. The UW program has gained a lot of steam the last 2 years and Shef has been happy to pull the trigger on a lot of sophomore/freshman, which is a slight concern, at least for me. It will be interesting to see how all of these young recruits turn out and where they end their college career, Badgers? And in other other news, who's seen Ebony on campus.... Great for the program. I'm curious to see how Loberg, Rettke, and Whalen develop these next few years in addition to the progression, and hopefully still-in-the-program group of Duello, Williams, Gillis, Saunders, etc.. Life After Lauren will be interesting yet full of potential. From a defensive perspective--VERY excited to have Dodge and MacDonald a part of this team. With a free scholarship, I still think we're in need of a terminal hitter, but those kids commit so early. I give Sheff a couple of years and we'll have all of the Lexi Suns and Ali Franttis we want. Looks like all the 2017's and Dodge will be playing in Chicago this weekend.

My post yesterday was all in good fun; the "conclusions" I made were inaccurate and meant to sway me into believing she'll choose Wisconsin (which is why I say I make up stories in my head). There have not been reports of her in Madison nor will there be as it was discussed previously that the program, like many, typically doesn't reveal their recruiting updates.

Additionally, as much as fans would LOVE to see Nwanebu in Madison, the Badgers have an All-American in Kriskova expected to play OPP and a setter who's the best at effectively spreading the offense across many hitters... I think we're OK either way (Ebony, if you're reading this--still choose Wisconsin, haha).

Ebony was in fact in Lincoln on Sunday and Monday and she is not and has not been in Madison playing with horses. The pictures on twitter were from when she was with family in Iowa a MONTH ago & it is CREEPY to follow her every move!! If she was so interest in Wisconsin she would be visiting-right? It was a joke.

I did notice, but I don't know what it means, so left it. And you're right, a public twitter account is as public as you can get. It's sole purpose is to be public. Searching through it for some hint of Ebony's thinking is a little sad maybe, but that was exactly the point of the joke. It is summer and we really don't have anything to talk about. This is what we're driven too. I'd love Ebony to come...I like her personally (from what I've read) and as a player. Would be wonderful to see her and Carlini hook up on the court. But I'm not feeling it's gonna happen and we're OK if it doesn't.

What are they feeding them over there?! Haha. Who wouldn't want this? Attachments:

Has anyone seen Duello play for club lately? any thoughts? This is a good question. Hannah Juley has also fallen off of everybody's radar. I wonder what Sheff really has in mind for her.

Before Erin's departure he said he planned to redshirt her and I'm guessing that's still the plan with Jordan coming in. I obviously can't speak for her, but you have to wonder if she'll end up considering elsewhere with Lauren and Jordan for two years, and then Jordan and Hilley after that. I do know that she is extremely talented... it's just different when you have Carlini in your program.

I guess I was thinking after the redshirt year...is there a role other than Lauren's back-up that she can play? And Hilley looks pretty damn good, too.

I think a 6-2 is a distinct possibility after Carlini graduates, as the Badgers will still expect to have Bates as a six rotation left side, and maybe some of the highly touted outsides they expect to have then could also fill that role (Duello, Gillis, Loberg, Whalen-not sure Saunders fills that niche from what I have heard about her). At any rate, depth on the pins should be a strength if everything goes as planned, so that would be a way of getting more people in the lineup and keeping them happy.
