It seems the composition of the 2015 lineup is largely dependent on the answers to the following two questions: 1. What are the odds of Foecke coming in and being in the starting lineup right away? (If she's not ready, you plug Hunter in at setter and probably go with the rest of the returning starters from the end of the 2014 season.) 2. If Foecke starts immediately, what position does she play? (She could conceivably play any of the front row positions, which would result in another returning starter moving to a different position or a reserve role.) It's going to be an interesting off-season! Isn't John usually hesitant in starting freshman? If that's the case, she may not start, but imo, she's ready and could make such a huge impact on this team The majority of Nebraska's starting lineup this year started as freshmen (both Rolfzens, JWO, Haggerty, Albrecht if you count a DS). That won't be an issue; especially since Foecke is better than the alternatives at several positions.

That's what the nebraska site said at least. It should be on haggertys bio.

Yes, before Haggerty, there was a short list of true freshman who started. Now with all the youth on our roster, we've had to start many freshman in the past years. I think we see Foecke at middle or RS. I would assume middle because we need an impact there the most, she played middle on the US teams, and she played there during HS. I think we will see her transition to OH/RS later on. Plus, I think the way Fien played this season along with Amber being a good defensive RS, I think we see Foecke and Hall at MB next season. Also, in case anybody hasn't seen: Foecke has been chosen as Gatorade National Player of the Year! www.gatorade.com/poy/profile.aspx?id=15526

In the last 15 years, Nebraska has started a freshman for 9 of them (so more often than not) and was starting freshmen by the end of the season in in 11 of them. 2014: N/A (if you don't count DS) 2013: Rolfzen, Rolfzen, Wong-Orantes 2012: Haggerty 2011: Dykstra 2010: Broekhuis 2009: Werth 2008: N/A 2007: 0-1 (Banwarth took over midseason) 2006: 0-2 (Holloway was RS fr., Cooper took over midseason) 2005: Larson 2004: Pavan, Stalls 2003: Busboom 2002: Salemaua 2001: 0 2000: 0

Her coach probably have not seen Haley Eckerman back in high school to say that he has not seen anyone as good as Foecke in Iowa High school scene. Congrats to Foecke though. I am wondering had Hodson played Highschool volleyball will it change anything about Gatorade POY decision.

Foecke plays in Iowa's smallest class. I know she averaged 13 points a set in one of their state tournament games. Not saying she wouldn't/couldn't put up similar numbers at a bigger school, but even if Hodson had played HS ball, it'd be hard to replicate the numbers Foecke put down just because of the competition she was up against.

The quoted coach is Mike Helling from the public high school in Fort Madison, Iowa. That's not Foecke's high school coach, as she went to Fort Madison Holy Trinity. Based on a bit of internet research, it appears Coach Helling has been around for a good number of years. I think it's entirely possible he saw Eckerman play back in high school and his opinion is still what he stated: "In all my years, I’ve never seen anybody out of Iowa with the ability to dominate a game like Foecke."

I've seen both in HS games and I believe Foecke to be the better HS player. Now if her talent translates to the college game as well as Eckerman's is yet to be seen, but I say Nebraska can only hope.

I was thinking about Fitzmorris. She has two incredible middles( that are young) at Stanford that she will have to wait on. I am curious if that will sway her decision?

Lutz will be the only MB on the roster by the time Inky and Mcgehee graduate. So Fitzmorris, if indeed she is considering Stanford, will possibly start from Day 1.
