For me, the more interesting, and possibly more alarming, aspect to all this is the fact that very few of our upcoming recruits are from Illinois. Weird to me that the staff hasn't been able to do a better job of keeping the in state talent home.

Or you could say that the staff has done a great job of selling Illinois to the out of state players.

Didn't Illinois just get awarded the best incoming freshman (2015) class in the country? As another post mentioned I to will defer to the coaches on recruiting. Brandi Donnelly wasn't on Big Ten teams radar or even highly recruited and I wouldn't think you would want to give her up. Much of the prep volleyball stuff for rankings seems to be from coaches and I know when my daughters were in HS our coach at the time could care less about filling out forms or promoting kids for awards so that can also be deceiving as far as how talented unheralded kids can be.
As for instate/out of state I guess you look for certain type of players regardless of where they are from. Illinois has a lot of D1 and D2 volleyball for kids from the state to go to for various reasons including playing potentially quicker, non volleyball reasons and some may just want to leave the state for a change. Many of the top players are from Chicago area and Iowa, WI, MI etc.. it may be the same distance as Urbana. I guess ultimately time will tell.

I may be totally off-base with this comment, but it has seemed to me that since Don Hardin became coach and continuing with Coach Hambly that Illinois does not do "high pressure" recruiting. Both Don Hardin and Coach Hambly have said that they want to be sure that recruits are as certain as they can be that Illinois is where they want to spend their college days and play for the Illini. Further, when a player commits to Illinois for vb, the coaching staff also makes a commitment to the player.
From the few defections that both Illinois coaches experienced during their tenures, I would say that in these respects Illinois volleyball has been very successful.

Since 2010, Jessica Jendryk left to play for a former Illini assistant coach for her 5th year and Jasmine Orozko left to be close to home after a freak injury. The annual Sportmanship Award is still named the Jessica Jendryk Sportsmanship Award. Matti Bielfeldt, a walk-on, does not appear on the 2015 roster. In 6 years, given the present climate, that is an amazingly low number of tranfers. Am I missing anyone?

Two from Texas, one from Georgia, and two from Kansas. Hambly is doing a good job selling Illinois to these girls. Expecially because Champaign is in the middle of corn fields.

I heard Hambly was recruiting Madison Duello really hard. Wished she had came to Illinois, she's a stud, and she would play more at Illinois vs at Wisconsin where she would be behind Gillis and Bates. Duello could have played this season or the next three if she had came to Illinois.

Are there any uncommitted 2016 players that Illinois could potentially be looking at?

After Birks graduates, they're really sparse on dominant OHs I would agree Illini does have 4 pin hitters coming in 2016 and 2017, but I think it's best for Illinois to get an OH that has experience. Only a few freshman could be able to replace a player like Birks, and I'm not sure if the committed freshman can do what she did for the Illini.

Do you guys think Strizak will be better, same, or not to bad when replacing Criswell? IMO I think she is more consistent and has more tricks up her sleeve, but it's somewhat hard for her to get the ball down.

Interesting pick by the Illini "72 kills, while hitting .221, and totaled 139 blocks (107 solo)." I know she was only a sophmore but 72 kills is not a lot and hitting ay .221 is not so good as well. Blocks looks good, but I'm a little concerned how effective she'll be in the next two years she has a lot to learn before coming to Illinois. I wonder is Illinois is just not getting those highly recruited players anymore. They didnt get Molly Hagerety or Alexis Hart. Little worried I'm not sure if any of the 2016 or 2017 are top 20 recruits. Those are her freshman stats. Her soph stats show 165 kills with a .325 hitting percentage.

Yea Tawa admitted he had accidentally reported on her freshman stats on the article. Either way still a little low IMO for a B1G recruit. No doubt her numbers will get better though the next few years. Not sure if she would play over Cooney, but she's still a good option. I like to see Cooney play RS for Illini.

How do you guys think Strizak will do filling in Criswells spot this season?
