It will be very interesting to see what the solid line up will be. I have a feeling: OH: LVW OH: Rasmussen MB: Stone MB: Gill Opp: Johnson S: Robinson L: Nuneviller DS: Tastad/BVS Depending on health, I could definitely see BVS at OH. She was the reason we beat Nebraska, offensively and defensively. And again, if healthy, having someone like her can really be the key to a really good team and a top 5 team.

Ducks come in at #18 in the preseason poll. 15 of our 29 matches come against teams ranked in the preseason poll (with an additional 5 against teams receiving votes), including 8 matches against the preseason Top 10. Looking forward to see them play here at Maples Pavilion in a few weeks. Also, planning to make the Oregon trip in October. I'll get plenty of chances to evaluate their progress. They are certainly one of the more intriguing teams starting the season considering their recruits and returning talent.

I wish there was a third setter on the team, so we could redshirt Robinson and go with Raskie this year, then have Robinson four more years.

Although, based on all the Robinson hype, if she's ready, I wouldn't mind her taking over this year either. I'm still not sold on Raskie.

I believe it’s been public for several months; Rasmussen is taking a redshirt year to get fully healthy. yes. On her Instagram, posted June 12th “2 years down, 3 to go” so it does sound like a redshirt year Yes. Ulmer confirmed Rasmussen redshirting this year to recover from knee surgery on his position breakdown, which c4ndlelight posted the link to. Said she’s on the same recovery track as Van Sickle was a year ago. I think this Duck team is going to be really good. Lots of options to experiment with. Edit: I am really excited to see Stone get a lot more sets this year.

Rasmussen first off the bench for a struggling outside? Seems rough to go from PAC HM two years running to no court consistent court time. I believe it’s been public for several months; Rasmussen is taking a redshirt year to get fully healthy. I guess I missed that! lol

goducks.com/news/2018/8/10/womens-volleyball-ducks-boast-depth-versatility-as-preseason-begins.aspxPosition by position preview. I'm highlighting the middles because Ronika Stone has amazing dance moves. "I believe that running a one setter system will allow more opportunities for our middles to be involved on the offensive end. We need to get our middles more touches, and Ronika (below) in particular hasn't been used enough. She had a dominant spring and is feeling good. I've challenged her to become the top middle in the country and I expect her to exceed my expectations. Sumeet has gained a lot of confidence since January, she has a unique set of skills that make us tough to defend and I'm excited to see her compete and take on more of a leadership role as the season progresses. We have two very good slide attackers and I want them to be running wild all season. Both Chandlar and Karson have blown me away thus far. Their ceilings are so high and I love the improvements they're making with every rep. They have two great examples to learn from and they're engaged and listening." I posted somewhere in here that they have got to set Ronika like UCLA '06 set Nana Meriwether. She needs to be that option that great teams with great middles used, like a Foluke, Inky, etc.

Pure conjecture on my part - who knows what it will actually be, but . . . . L1 - LVW L2 - Borup (DS - BVS) M1 - Stone M2 - Gill S - Robinson OPP - Johnson (DS: Tastad) L - Brooke N. Raskie as super sub/energy infusion, backing up both Willow and serving as a front-row setting option if a big OH is going after frosh setter block. Bacon challenges for M2 over the course of the season. If there were enough subs, could even see that position split between 2 and 3-hitter rotations.. but alas there aren't enough subs. BVS is a very good pipe attacker and can help keep blocks honest. There were a couple of things i didn't like about the 6-2 the past few years. It limited the slide (yes, I know you can run the X, but approach lanes can get crowded/interrupted easily and is rarely viable in transition), and another is that it really limited sub flexibility - you couldn't switch out an individual setter/opp who was struggling without taking the other out of the game and were just kind of locked in. I know there's a desire to get a lot of different hitters involved but I like the flexibility of the 5-1, in addition to freeing up the slide and subs for back row players (which we have more viable options for this year!). This lineup definitely seems viable, the biggest question to me is Raskie or Robinson. Might be Raskie Day 1, transition to Robinson. I was thinking maybe a 5-2, but you may run out of subs at times.

And Oregon had setters who wanted to consistently set away from players doing well the past four years. Good point.

Is anyone going to the scrimmage tonight? If so, a recap would be appreciated!

Based on the preview of the scrimmage write up, I gotta believe you'll see: OH: LVW OH: BVS RS: Willow M1: Ronika M2: Sumeet L: Nuneviller S: Raskie I think it leads to an insane level of ball control and will make Raskie's job a lot easier. Though if she stumbles at all, it wouldn't surprise me to see Robinson quickly in the mix. I think Borup becomes the swing substitute hitter for someone who isn't hitting well because she can hit from either side. Add that I think you'll likely see Kyra DSing for Willow
Edit: side thought, depending on how good of a hitter Nuneviller is, she could OH, and BVS could L. But....options, options, options.

Probably right as of today - but another 10 days of practice and so many options that lots could happen!
