It was awkward when the camera caught Logan talking to Apitz about her "face" during the 5th set.

I laughed so hard, camera peeps were picking up the tension on Cannes side of the net.

Piacenza tried out Kozuch-Sorokaite-Van Hecke at the pins. Unsurprisingly, they couldn't pass and it didn't work. Moscow up 2-0. Poor Cardullo. I could have sworn Kozuch was playing in China this season?

Kozuch finished contract in China and since she did not play European Cup she was free to join team competing in EU Cup in this case Piacenza to play in CL. I believe Senna also made transfer to Italy.
Yan Fang is one of best technical and strategic coaches in the world he was won CL on many occasions and is very well respected. Vika for some years has been liaison between Fang and players she is much closer to player coach.
Courtney is poor technical setter with low accuracy percentage but has at her disposal great attackers to make up for her deficiencies. The best setters playing in Europe are in Turkey or Russia, and Azerbaijan. She is the level of Swiss or German or French League. If she was this top level she would be in one of these countries. Not so long ago she was in Koniz. Easy domestic schedule allows her to do manageable job in CL. If Anna had proper motivation she would sure pass Thompson.
To defend her (Thompson) I would say arrangements of Volero passing organization does not help Thompson and much of her accuracy problems exist because of this.
Apitz also has limitations but American players I think create greatest obstacle for Cannes. Fawcette is with one trick only in attack and it's not so reliable or consistent. Wopat possess much physical talent but does not understand how to play this level. She misses most subtle differences of professional level and is struggling with orientation in most common situations. So much so Vika with 40 years is above her. And Logan is not been fit for some time now. Fang system is designed on very specific position organization and Tom has always been something like a free lancer this is not good combination for his system.
Cannes played to their highest level so far this season with perhaps exception of VakifBank against a team with much physical ability but not much by way of organization as result was closer in some moments than needed to be.
I will be in Istanbul next week to see return matches of two Turkish teams but I cannot see any trouble from rivals with all Turkish teams moving beyond this round.

Antonijevic is seriously injured.. I think she ruptured her Achilles tendon, or maybe not ruptured but injured.. That's the reason the signed Croatian Ana Grbac.. CT was supposed to be a sub.. I like her distribution though, she uses her attackers really good, considering she has only 2 receivers, one of which is an attacking OH

Like I said, Kazan's most lethal part of their game is their block this season. Yureva is a phenomenal blocker, but Startseva is the type of setter that needs a perfect pass to run her middles, otherwise she just throws the ball out to Katya or Antonella. Nikolaeva is a horrible passer, and I think Kazan would have thrown down a loss for Vakif yesterday had they still had Larson, who's having another terrific tournament.

Larson is performing pretty poor in Ecz.. far away from the form she was in in Kazan..

Watch this last game, either of her games against Vakifbank, the first game against Zurich and the first game against Fenerbache. In addition, for the first part of the season, she was one of the leading scorers in the Turkish league. Herself along with de la Cruz (and others) have sat out multiple games against weaker teams because of Eczacibasi's depth. One of Larson's best qualities in the London quad was her consistency. Yes, her consistency seems to have gone down and I do agree it's going to be hard to beat her season with Kazan, but she's also exhausted, playing a different role and athletes are allowed to have off games.

She hit .079 in her last game. 12-9-38. And that's not against a top opponent. Could be fatigue, could be just lack of engagement/motivation, but it's not unfair to note her level has dropped off a bit. Personally, I hope she's just pacing herself for a monster 2016 run.

I do think Larson needs to take time off. There bodies need to recover, and she has played a lot of volleyball. But when you are getting the payday she is...
