Our team didn't make this tourney, but caught 16 open at the SPVB Presidents Day Challenge a couple weeks ago. Sounds like many of the same teams & the place was packed with D1 coaches & prospects.
Had Mariah Whalen's team playing against Grace Loberg's on one court while Dana Rettke's team played Lone Star out of Frisco TX on an adjacent court. I know it's a few years away, but Badgers have some serious talent in that 2017 class!

What did you think?

Minnesota Select 18-1's wins 2-1 over M-1 18-1. Congrats to both teams on a great weekend. This is Hilley's team, correct? Did she set and hit? Her hitting has greatly greatly approved in just one year. pretty impressive.

So much for SPVB 18 they already lost today They lost to M1 who despite their record has an incredible team, the player I was most impressed with on that team was Shiah Sanders, I could not watch her play enough. Not to take anything away from Ella Francis, but Shiah has so much fun on the court and does everything so effortlessly. I am surprised SPVB lost to them although not shocked as M1 did take a set from them the first time they played (Friday). Of all the teams I saw, M1 was easily the most fun to watch. Mn Select was so good, SPVB was a powerhouse but M1 seemed to enjoy being out there the most. Overall it was a great time, we do not get to see that level of competition often in Wisconsin as most of the best teams make a run for the border to play and we end up with second tier competition typically

Was surprised the first time I saw her spike, if she decides to give up setting she could be an excellent hitter!

What did you think? Whalen is a solid athletic all-around player I have seen often. Her team uses her as their primary attacker and she is very effective at this level. The only question will be how her size translates at the BIG level. Loberg is a strong attacker as well, but I was amazed at how she moved in the back row. She played all around and was so fluid on defense that you forgot she was 6'3". Rettke is all of 6"7" as reported and moves laterally very well. She opened the match I saw with a slide kill that had the crowd let out a collective "Holy $*&%!" She throws up an elbows over the net block, serves well, but does not play back row after that.

M-1 also took a set from SPVB in a January scriumage in Rochester. I know that was just a scrimmage ,but M-1 18-1's have played SPVB tough this year.

M-1 and Select really looked good at the Las Vegas Presidents Day Classic. Select finished 9th and M-1 finished 29th, but was very competitive all tournament long. It looks like a down year for JVA teams. The champion and runer-up of the SPVB President Day Challenge just finished 4th and 49th at Crossroads.

Its SPVC then and Iam sorry they are not a juggernaut, at least not this year. Tomato Tomaaatoe; AES has then listed as SPVB as does their website as you see above. When I said Juggernaut, it does not mean completely unstoppable, it just means they keep on coming. When you see 5-6 attacks per rally over and over again from one side with the other scrambling to keep the ball up, seems like the term works
