OK...I have raised this issue in the recent past and was befuddled at how everyone ignored the query and took the thread in some other direction.
With low expectations, but fingers crossed anyway, here goes again:
What are the best summer training camps (by position) for high school athletes?

While it is a huge money maker for USA Volleyball and is often criticized because of it, my daughter had a great learning experience doing the high performance programc. She did her camp in Colorado Springs but have heard many players have a great learning experience regardless of the level / location. I would also say that Sports Performance runs great camps. They get a lot of credit for their setter's academies, but I have heard all their camps are pretty solid. While there are some exceptions, I would utilize college camps primarily as a recruiting/school assessment tool. For college camps, probably best to confirm that the coach has some interest before attending. There are only so many days in the summer between JOs and high school and you want to use them effectively. If you have the money to send your daughter away for a camp, you might be best off investing those same dollars into private lessons if you have a strong local coach.

Though I completely disagree wiht vbfanatic on the value of the HP Program, I agree wholeheartedly with everything else.

My own DD never felt she got that much out of club or college camps she attended, except one college camp where she was being heavily recruited and got a lot of real coaching. However, she thought the private lessons she took consistently over the years were invaluable. She found one coach who was great at analyzing and teaching her exactly what she needed to do to keep improving, and she stuck with him. She generally took two lessons a week over the summer, for up to 2 hours at a time. No question that was the best use of our volleyball dollars. (She didn't attend any SPVB camps, so I can't speak to that.)

MY BAD...apparently I made the erroneous assumption that English was the native tongue of most of the board visitors

Different people look for different things in camps. As they do with all things. You are asking for "best" camps but what is best for you isn't for others. Put down some criteria before asking general questions.

What are the best summer training camps (by position) for high school athletes? What part of the country do you live in? Penn St, Nebraska, Southern Cal and Texas all run well regarded summer camps.

Put down some criteria before asking general questions. Reading other's views of what they think is important is very much a part of the needed answer. Why is that not obvious?

It's the framing of the question. It's like asking for the best movie ever, without saying anything about the genre, or whether you preferred a comedy, a mystery etc. you may get a huge range of answers and none of them may answer your question.
Why are you getting defensive about this?

Summer camps often come down to one thing: Which court you get placed on. Since most players overrate their talent, their expectations fall short on where they fit in at camps. For what it is worth, the best camps for high school kids are often hosted by clubs themselves. College coaches deal with a different type of athlete, whereas clubs deal with athletic ability that stretches across the board.

Texas camps are fun, they sell lots of great swag, but with the possible exception of the elite camp, they aren't really about learning volleyball.

When I was going to camps my personal favorite was the Marv Dunphy Pepperdine Camps. Most of the courts are outside on the baseball field but it was great to be in Malibu learning from the best.

Summer camps at colleges are money makers for the staff who have to be there anyway during the summer. A head coach may be there but it seems to me to work with their teams who have incoming personnel and sync up for the coming season. Coaches are limited in the amount of time they can spend in the team with their teams, per NCAA rules.
Like beachdude wrote, court placement gives you a good idea of how the player is evaluated. The college starting team is on one court with the better campers, and the remainder campers playing on a different court with the college players "B" team or some random person. So if you want to pay for that, spend the dollars. I agree that privates and club clinics seem to get the player to the next level. One of my players moved from one position to another, by having privates an entire summer. Also, passing is a skill that can always be improved yet only the libero/ds has a vested interest in it when really all positions need to get better at it. The middle from BYU, 6'7" Jennifer Hamson, played backrow at least one rotation cause she had some skill in it, and they needed her serving skills; whereas the OH, Alexis Gray, got subbed out for 3 rotations due to her missing passing skills. These can be best learned at privates or weekly club clinics that focus on drills for that skill.
