Still no reply to the coach I know who applied. He has a very impressive resume. No word back. Woman or Man?

The word "He" might be a giveaway. I read the original correctly but with all the smoke being blown as far as I am concerned it could be she, he, player coach..............

Not replying is a sign of a lack of support/focus for the volleyball program. Good coaches will be turned off and away by that. I understand, but in a typical state hiring process, you're not allowed to respond until the conclusion of the application submission period. Which I believe is six weeks in this situation. Perhaps they're just following the rules.

They attracted good classes before Paula came. PrepVolleyball designated their classes for 2007 21st in the nation and the 2009 class, 24th. These were brought together by assistant coaches Ben and Sabrina. UCI can attract talent. It's a matter of putting in the work and developing an atmosphere in which athletes want to be a part of. Rip 'em Eaters ! the 21st or 24th ranked classes aren't going to be enough to be a contender nationally If you are getting top 25 recruiting classes shouldn't you be producing a top 25 product?

Not when other classes are getting top 25 every year. One class does not make a team good. Especially when it's ranked that low. Now if they had one in the top ten, surely they should be ranked. But sadly they don't get recruits like that.

Well if you had the 21st in 2007 and 24th in 2009, it seems when the 2007 group were seniors you should have a top 25 team that season if you developed the talent properly. And then once you get a top 25 team, you use that to get more talent and start reloading your talent. I think it's possible for them to get there, just need someone who can recruit and develop talent, which will take a good HC along with ACs.

I honestly don't see UCI getting the top recruits.. I don't know why. It's a great school, but for some reason top talent doesn't want to go there.

Prentice Lewis was an assistant coach at UCI in the late 90's. She has applied for the job.

It's an interesting thought that there might be coaches out there who might pass up the Irvine job because Long Beach and Hawaii will likely be looking for a new HC in the near future.

It's an interesting thought that there might be coaches out there who might pass up the Irvine job because Long Beach and Hawaii will likely be looking for a new HC in the near future. That's a risky proposition for just about everyone on the list above, none of whom are currently head coaches (indoor). Hawaii and Long Beach's expectations will be much higher than UCI's, and they will likely be more reluctant to gamble on an inexperienced or unproven coach. It would make more sense for those on the list (with the exception of Hilliard) to seek out a current head coaching gig. But being even a little bit more successful than UCI has been in the last few years is hardly a great set-up for either Hawaii or LB.
