Agree that the HBO segment is worth the watch if you can get access.
Its available through the HBO GO app which requires a username and password associated with a subscription.
There is reference to The Tepper Scale developed by an Ohio State professor to measure "workplace" abuse.
I believe it was implied that the NCAA compiled data using this assessment tool.
The results showed that NCAA athletes are experiencing abuse levels higher than any Fortune 500 company or military organization that compiled similar data using the Tepper Scale.
Dr Ben Tepper in the Real Sports interview:
"They've created a situation where you've got bosses who are under tremendous strain. The pressure to win is really high. Their job insecurity is really high. That combined with students who have very little power. They can't escape. They can't get away. They are totally vulnerable."
Truthfully, the vast majority of the D1 college athletes I know are experiencing this dynamic to some degree.
Just like the volleyball player featured in the HBO segment, they are athletes who had (prior to college) played for tough coaches in high stress situations and thought they were prepared.
How rampant is this in College Volleyball? Isolated situations or more than that?
