Jeremy reminds me a little of Luyties or Blanton. You watch him play and think about how good he looked and then realize he somehow managed to lose. no disrespect meant to you or Casebeer but comparing him to Ricci and Dain is way off. Ricci is a hall of famer with 7 open wins, a gold medal and is one of the best of the golden era of the sport. Dain with 9 open wins, a beach gold medal, 2 time Olympian and a hall of famer. The kid has a long way to go before being compared to 2 all time greats. Oh sure absolutely. I meant just in terms of being underwhelming in comparison to how they look. Watching Casebeer play you would think with the right partner he would be a regular semifinalist and maybe one final a year. A Brad Keenan level player if you will. Whereas Ricci was a one win a year guy, who looked like he should have won 30 tournaments. Same with Dain. Not comparable players at all, just a similarity

The Dutch are whipping Nick/Theo. Hopefully just a bad game but Theo looks outclassed. No blocks, aced three times, dug consistently.

O Canada! Storming out of a 13 seed for the win. Yes, wondering what happened in game 2 vs the US... 21-14. Congrats, Cam!

Embarassing tournament for the US. Only Todd/Stafford performed to expectations and Walsh/Ross and Lucena/Brunner both performed very poorly. Has to be a special win for Canada. Not just winning for the first time but going through the no. 1 team in the world to do it

Todd and Stafford played poorly as well. They just got a lucky forfeit in a match they were losing.

Walsh/Ross would be #2.

I'm not going to over-react to the 1st tournament of the year.
I'd also defend a couple of the finishes. Kim and Lane lost to April & Kerri. While Todd/Stafford were losing in the match that got forfeited to them, the scores were close, and I don't think many would expect them to beat the NED team anyway. They are still learning each other.
Nick and Theo had a bad match, but other than that took care of every other opponent in 2 sets. Which for both players is a small something.

With both Lane and Theo, in the matches they lost they looked awful. One of the matches Lane/Kim lost in pool play, Lane gave up six straight points to end the match and looked like a qualifier playing Karch/Kent.
Likewise Theo got absolutely worked by the Dutch. I cant remember the last time I saw a pro get aced four times in a game where the opposing team was not serving them exclusively, or in any short court game really. BTW that is in Game 2, I didnt see much of Game 1 where he and Nick only scored 9 pts.
Its April and one tournament so hopefully the US teams just werent really ready. Seems sloppy of them not to be though

Can anyone with any knowledge of the subject explain why USA Volleyball is incapable of working with FIVB to fix these broadcasting rights issues and get the U.S. access to a decent webcast? It's just ridiculous.
It will continue to be the five or six of us posting on these matches until someone gets their sh** together. The most important thing is to get fans in the U.S. (and there aren't many of us right now) access to a high-quality, live feed of these matches. Showing a broadcast days later on a cable channel is useless.
End of rant.

Unfortunately I don't think USAV has anything to do with it. NBC (Universal Sports) has the US broadcast rights. Presumably those are purchased from FIVB. They choose not to broadcast, stream or license those rights in the US except for the medal matches (usually delayed). So we are pretty much SOL unless someone outbids Universal for the rights or they are given a reason to show more/make it available.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that is my understanding.

Thanks for the explanation. In the end though, the FIVB is the entity that sells the broadcast rights and USAV should have some influence with the FIVB in terms of the contract they negotiate for the US broadcast rights.
I wonder how long the current contract lasts and when they can renegotiate.

The worst part is I cant imagine that NBC paid much for the rights. This seems like short term thinking rather than trying to build a product
