Does anyone know why MN Select and Lights ended up playing in 18 USA? They declined both bids. They both made it to the finals with Select winning.

Lights doesn't play Nationals at 18s. They usually go to Europe and forgo nationals due to lateness of the tourney. Has been like this for years. Don't knowabout M1

Not sure about that, but the tournament seeding and brackets made no sense. Extra matches were added on day two that didn't effect movement.

True...They went those years because Adam thought they had a special team those years (and his kiddo was the setter...). This years team apparently is not special...

This years team apparently is not special... They might also allow the players and coaches some input. BTW, the 18s generally travel to Europe during April, so I don't believe that has any bearing. A 16s team usually travels to Europe during the summer months.

Lights 18s went to Nationals in 2013 also; when they had the Tapps, Whilhite, etc.. IIRC they won Nationals when they were 17s.

Are you asking why they played USA rather than OPEN?
If so, I think it is because you can decline a Bid in the USA division. In the Open division you cannot decline a bid, and there are penalties if you don't use the bid.
If that isn't the question, then never mind.

I believe if you accept a bid in Open and then don't show up for Nationals you are ineligible to participate the following year. If you cannot decline a bid that would be a reason for them to not enter Open.

I've seen Lights decline bids numerous times. A few years ago I asked one of the kids why they declined the bid and she told me that they were going to AAU Nationals in Orlando. Seemed like a good reason to me at the time.

NL's will not play in Open divisions unless they plan on accepting bids if they were to qualify...as far as Orlando goes that makes no difference since many Lights teams travel directly from AAU's to Nationals if they qualify. This year is no different (16-1's will fly from Orlando to NO's...)

I heard many 16s will not be in Orlando due to the overlap in the age group at both locations. Just a thought
