You're proposing that a school pay a coach an entire year's salary to sit out whenever he or she changes jobs? Why not? Notre Dame AND Kansas BOTH paid Charlie Weis not to coach in the same years. It would make both parties really think about moves. Just like the student really should ponder her move. and not "whenever they change jobs". Just when they change jobs without the majority consent of the athletes they have commitments from. They paid both of them because they had contractual obligations to do so. But it's not something you would want to do consistently, and certainly doesn't make business sense.

I am sure things could be fixed to make it so that both the school and player are held accountable for their decisions regarding coaches, players and recruits. Here are some ideas: - Players on scholarship and schools have a 4 year mutual commitment.
- If a player on scholarship is redshirted, player and school commit to 5th year.
- If a head coach is fired, player on scholarship and school commitment remain intact.
- If a head coach under contract moves to another school, all players at both schools have a one time transfer exemption and can play immediately at any school.
- The school that the head coach moved to cannot accept ANY transfer exemption players (from any school) during that year, and cannot accept any transfer players from previous school for 4 years.
- If one time exemption is used, remainder of 4/5 year commitment transfers with the player to the new school.

I actually like these except for #2. The school/program committed to 4 years. If Suzie tears her ACL during the first match of her senior season and redshirts, her scholarship has already been promised to a recruit. You can't award her a scholarship unless you pull the recruit's. 5th-year scholarships should be awarded at the discretion of the head coach. Players transferring after earning their undergrad degree should not have to sit out (which encourages good academics).

So do we know when she is deciding? If 3-4 schools are holding scholarships for her that means that there are at least 2-3 other kids who are going to be impacted by her decision.

Forgive me if I am missing something and no disrespect to Ebony's decision to leave USC (if she is not happy, she SHOULD leave), but if she misses her brother growing up and her home and her mother, why would she consider Nebraska and Wisconsin, which are still a long ways away from the state of Texas? I understand she has family in Iowa, but if her reasons are missing home, her brother and mother, I am not seeing how this will resolve those personal reasons she has stated and if she chooses another school so far away from the state of Texas, won't she eventually be in the same boat? Yes, we all recognize Nebraska and Wisconsin have great programs, but how does this get her closer to Texas where her brother is growing up? At this point, wouldn't a Texas college be a more logical choice? Or does she just want out and to play for one of these powerhouses? Again, nothing wrong with that, just curious how this will resolve her missing home if those are the reasons as she said. She has so many family in Iowa to drive to her play near them. That was just not possible at USC. Are you suggesting that the Bond Shymansky era continues with another BIG IMPACT move?

Holding scholarships, other kids impacted? What does that mean? Schools have scholarships available, how are players impacted any differently than when any good recruit shows up?

Think they mean that if she is looking at 3-4 schools that have a schollie spot open and hasn't made her mind up, then potentially there are other girls out there that are wanting to get those spots but the coach might be waiting on Ebony to decide. Which potentially keeps all the other recruits in limbo waiting on her to decide.

Holding scholarships, other kids impacted? What does that mean? Schools have scholarships available, how are players impacted any differently than when any good recruit shows up? I don't mean players on the roster, I mean kids "out there" trying to plan a life. If there are 4 scholarships being held for Nwanebu right now, and Nwanebu can only take one of them, 3 scholarships are going to a plan B. The plan B for some of them might be Haggerty, who doesn't have much time either. Plan B might be to have one of their 16's report in January, if she can get her HS credits squeezed into the fall. They'd have an offer for another '16 recruit who is getting pressured to commit to her other school before Nwanebu decides. Whoever gets Nwanebu has an open scholarship for 2017 and a bunch of the candidates are going to commit before or just after nationals. Maybe someone wouldn't commit to Colorado or Florida if they knew Texas or Nebraska or Wisconsin was gonna come knocking. Whatever happens there are a handful of players who's lives are up in the air until she makes a decision. Nwanebu is just the first domino to fall.
