Totally embarrassing they couldn't get more people to attend a match between two of the world's super powers of volleyball.

It's 3 o'clock on a Wednesday, in the middle of summer? Attendance is about as expected?

It's 3 o'clock on a Wednesday, in the middle of summer? Attendance is about as expected? Many other Grand Prix stops around the world seem to have no trouble producing fans and atmosphere. Even when the home side is not involved in the match. This is the first time the US has hosted a major volleyball tournament outside the Olympic Games. If this is any indication for the rest of the GP finals it will probably be the last. I'm sure the matches involving the US will fare better. Nonetheless it seems that USA Volleyball/The organizers didn't get the job done.

World Championships last year had some similarly sparse matches. At least wait until USA takes the court to make your judgment.

I think the crowd will start to really filter in during Russia/Italy when everyone is starting to get off of work is my guess.

I didn't start watching team USA a lot till this past year, so I don't know much about the other teams, but is anyone playing for China or Brazil part of their A team?

However, the only time the WGP plays during the afternoon mid-week is the finals. All the other stops are doubleheaders that are Thursday/Friday/Saturday evening and on Sunday afternoon (or evening). Last year's opening match between China and Belgium at 12:30 on Wednesday listed an attendance of 1,000. ( Link).
