Not a particularly tall Russian team. Couple of girls around 6'3," everyone else shorter. Sun and Lanier probably face a bigger block in YNT practices. According to USAV stats, Lanier hit .289 today, so it's not like she had a terrible go out there against the Russian block. Sun had a pretty poor day statistically, but some times your best option is to keep your horse in and hope she turns it around. It looks like we got aced 3 times and had 3 service errors in the 5th set. For all that some of the stats looks bad (a 20% error rate on attack attempts, yikes), that's pretty darn close against one of the favorites. I agree that the most important thing is development for US Volleyball. International rules means less subs and hitters have to pass. So taking a loss to develop Sun and Lanier and others is not necessarily a bad thing.

There's an OH in the Argentinian team who has a cannon of an arm. Don't show this to Mick.

USA sweeps Belgium! 25-17, 25-23, 25-19
Sun led the team in scoring-16 points via 13 kills, 1 block, 2 aces Plummer was second with 9 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces
Also it looks like Hilley started the first set but Lilley took over for the next 2 sets...sounds like Lilley did a good job

I just checked the FIVB facts and figures for the USA...
Best Scorer: 1. Sun 2. Plummer 3. Lanier Best Spiker: 1. Plummer 2. Lanier 3. Sun Best Blocker: 1. Plummer 2. Pittman 3. Sun Best Server: 1. Plummer 2. Sun 3. Pittman Best Setter: 1. Hilley 2. Lilley Best Digger: 1. Clark 2. Plummer 3. Sun Best Receiver: 1. Clark 2. Lanier 3. Hentz; Sun is actually the worst receiver so far.
Based on this performance so far, I really think Plummer may be the #1 senior ace. Stone and Pittman in the 5-10 range. Plummer is actually a close second out of all the teams in terms of Best Spiker

She's actually #5 (out of 5) in Spiking - it's just that the middles don't have enough attempts to get a "rank."

Per FIVB, kill percentage, with a minimum of 15% of team attempts to get ranked. But I usually convert to efficiency and re-rank, cuz errors are bad.

You Texas fans are in for a treat.

Plummer is actually a close second out of all the teams in terms of Best Spiker Here's a simple wish for this team, and all others that have the privilege of wearing our nation's colors and representing us in competitions around the planet: that all VT fans, and those that don't comment, would root for the teams, without bias or preference based on where the student/athlete goes to school or will go to school. When they are wearing Red, White and Blue, they are on the US's team and not a Longhorn, Badger, Cardinal, etc. They are representing the USA. I totally get why it's easy to want to support those that are, or will be, our own. But instead of myopically supporting or rooting for simply those current players from your favorite college roster or future rosters, savor being able to root for all of them now, as if they were your own. Kathryn Plummer isn't a Stanford Cardinal now. She's a USA Youth National Team member. Lexi Sun, fans in Austin, isn't a Longhorn yet. She will be, and will be great there, but she's a member of the USA's Youth National Team. Heck Stanford fans, who were absolutely convinced that Morgan Hentz would be starting as the Libero for the USA's National Team in Lima, Peru, should now be rooting just as hard for Tiffany Clark as our team's Libero even though Tiffany is committed to joining Michigan in 2016. All of us need to put our passion for our favorite college program aside and root, in a unified way, for Team USA. It's healthy and it's the right thing to do. Go USA!
