Holt serves ace. Tied at 9.
Holt's serve hits the net and lands wide. 9-10
Canada serves in the net. 10-10
Down the line kill by Canada's OH. 10-11
Sander passes too close to the net. Micah goes up to get it and sets quickly to David Lee who has nowhere to go but straight into the Canadian block. 10-12
USA timeout.
Good pass from Sander. Anderson tries off-speed on right. Canada digs it. U.S. gets it back over off the block touch. Canada can't get it over on three. 11-12
Anderson ace serve right on the line. Canada doesn't like the call. Sure looked good to me. 12-12
Timeout Canada
Canada off Sander on the block. 12-13
Canada misses serve? 13-13
Great defense from U.S. but Troy just long in the corner. 13-14 Match point for Canada.
Bunch of subs for Canada. Shoring up their blocking/digging defense?
U.S. calls timeout.
Canada serves in the net. 14-14
Nice to actually hear the crowd.
Kawika Shoji serves. Troy either in or hands. 15-14 U.S. match point now.
Kawika serves in the net. 15-15
Anderson bad pass on float serve. Sander gets it to Troy who just sets it over short. Canada picks it up and gets it to their outside hitter. U.S. blocks him, but called in the net. 15-16 Canada gets 2nd match point.
Anderson misjudges float serve, shanks it low and in front of him and no one else can get to it before it drops. 15-17 Canada wins it in 5.

That's unfortunate we lost in that fashion. Especially without Schmitt for Canada

U.S. team seemed rather lethargic for a lot of that match, as well as out of rhythm on passing, setting, and blocking. I like that Speraw is trying Troy at opposite right now. A good match to see where they're at.
And that is the end for me.

Canada has proved, again, that they are just not a regular team. Not anymore. I watched the match and was quite surprised to see that they spared two of their starters, and we sent what was supposed to be our best lineup on to the court. Not the result I was expecting, but at least we qualified for the World Cup and that is what really matters in the end. Oh, I just want to say congratulations USAV on the nice work by providing a high quality streaming to the fans. Please, can we have live streaming like this for every single match?. It's so much better than watching delayed editions on tv.

Good things happened: serving and blocking, yet passing (an old enemy) and setting sometimes wasn´t there. Sander has 0.4 hit, and that's not a normal thing. I don´t think is a good idea have Anderson and Sander as OH, both far from being good passers. Against A teams like Russia or Poland, can forsee even more troubles. So, what to do? Anderson to the right, and get an OH2 that can balance pass/receive. Against general opinions here, i'm not a Troy's fan, he hasn´t a fast arm, using always strength (when could be a more crafty player), being blocked in crucial moments. Anyway, he will have a second chance to prove that i'm wrong - against Iran.

In these close matches, most are close at this level, the opponents seem to go after our OH's in crunch time and passing does sometimes break down. Coach has a gym full of power ballers and not much in the way of ball handlers or versatile athletes that can finesse or use their athletic brains to find a seam or the wood. I know mens volleyball is a power game at these levels but there is just something missing from this group, imho.

Priddy, Lotman, generally speaking someone who is a consistent passer (MA it isn't). Thtas why in many cases you don't have 2 best attackers as OH. Murillo, Mika, Tillie, Spiridonov are not the best attackers, far from that, but they give an incredible balance in serve/receive. Antiga, Poland's coach dismissed Kurek precisely because he has tremendous flaws in s/r.

Lotman comes up a lot, but a lot of that came from his roll with Resovia 2 years ago when they won the PlusLiga and he was on the court solely for passing purposes. Unfortunately it hasn't been a consistent presence in serve receive for the NT. From people who have been watching practices and scrimmages, they have been saying that Priddy has been one who has been struggling a lot. Look at all the guys who ran through that OH2 position last summer. Lotman, Priddy, Rooney, Muagututia, and Anderson all got put out there at one point. and neither of them solidified themselves. I agree that we need to pick up passing, but saying that since Matt Anderson doesn't pass well enough that we should sit one of the best opposites in the world this year seems a bit ludicrous.
I won't try to sugarcoat Anderson's passing lately. He had a rough CL, and got pulled in the semis for Sivol. Though in the biggest matches of the year, Alekno wasn't going with Spiridinov (who's attacking is still better than many of the OH in our squad). It is also easy to leave Kurek off your roster when you have Mika, Kubiak, and Winiarski. His most successful season in the past few years was at Lube in 13-14 when he rarely passed because they could call on Zaytsev to handle the ball. We honestly don't have the best depth at the pins (where we are stacked in the middle), but I am not going to say that I know more than Speraw in terms of who is producing on a daily basis in training and deserving of being on the court.

Ok, forget Lotman and Priddy, what we know is Anderson and Sander, both are world top performers in terms of attack, but their passing are not solid. We can handle one, but no two. I know this is hard to accept. Kurek's mention was to demonstrate how important is passing, Antiga knew that, and put Mika on the court (before last WL he wasn't known for the majority). About Anderson nobody said that he should be out of the court, we suggested that he should return to Opp, instead of Troy. But i agree wiith you, Speraw know more than us, and maybe these two world "monsters" MA and TS might solidify their passing, and if that happens i'll be here to congratulate this option. USA need and deserve!
