I mean, these WGP legs don't count for anything either, and it's not like the competition is better. I disagree with the former. How so? These are no more meaningful than the friendly matches. We have already qualified, and none of the teams we played last weekend are making a serious run at qualifying for the WGP Finals either (Italy is trying out some players who haven't been in the NT mix, Turkey rested its top players after the European Games, Belgium's starting setter and 2 best attackers were held out).

Is the USA Team changing up the roster for this coming weekend?

Well, Karch will sleep easier if Kreklow plays well in the GP and upcoming World Cup.

Don't these matches count toward the world rankings?

Don't these matches count toward the world rankings? Only the final standings count towards our world ranking, but since we have already qualified for omaha, these matches dont really matter.

Don't these matches count toward the world rankings? Yes, but they changed the Olympic Qualification process so World Rankings don't matter, which is why teams in 2011 (particularly the European ones) were trying a lot harder than teams in 2015.

You know who these matches matter for?
Kreklow trying to earn a setter spot. Thompson trying to keep hers. Lloyd on the outside looking in waiting for another shot. Lowe, Murphy, and Fawcett battling for two spots. Robinson, Easy, and Vansant for the two spots behind Larson-Burbach and Hill. Perhaps Hildebrand if there is an injury. Dixon, Gibbemeyer, Jackson, and Adams for the third middle spot.
They all think these games mean a lot.

I completely agree that these matches are huge for these players trying to prove their worthy of rio, but in terms of the world rankings, they dont really matter.

These games do mean a lot for that purpose, and I didn't mean to discount them in that way - I was merely responding to the idea that the USAV Cup was less meaningful in that regard.

Maybe Karch is thinking that certain players are locks right now... As in the ones he left at home for the first week.

That was not your original question; as for this question I do not know. When I said "tournament," I did not mean a series of friendly matches that don't count for anything whatsoever. If you don't think that the women weren't be evaluating for Rio during the China series, you are nuts.

Random thought. I remember during the 2010-2012 WGP tournaments, each match would get around 10+ pages of posts, but we have one thread for all 3 matches, and we got to 16.

The context of my conversation was relating to Megan Easy and that this, the WGP, was the first tournament back for her. I was not considering the USAV Cup because I do not think that scrimmages are the same thing as sponsored FIVB events. I think there is a little more pressure associated. You mention teams from this past weekend holding their good players out, but I think that you could argue that China did the same thing since Zhu only played 2 of the 4 matches. I wasn't trying to say that we're evaluating any less or competing any more in either event, but I think that playing and starting in the WGP on foreign soil is a little bit different, regardless of our inclusion in the Final Round or not, than four friendly scrimmages at home.
