All these guesses are way off. I've seen a top Pac-12 server clocked by her coach with a radar gun during practice and 41 MPH was her top speed. Pretty sure Joe Trinsey's numbers are accurate.

There's a lot of things that can affect the numbers you get on a radar gun when measuring serve or spike speed. Elevation plays a factor, as does where you position yourself when taking the reading, and even the inflated pressure of the ball.
I'd like to stand on the other side of the court where a receiver stands when Fawcett nails one, because her top speed approaches the range of some of the top international men's players and their jump serves.

When Fawcett was hitting her spinner, it was low-60s- harder than a fair amount of guys in the MPSF, but quite a bit below the top international men's servers.

I believe that Strickland's coaches have clocked her serve in the low 60's numerous times. The true jump serve is much faster than the jump float.

It's always nice to hear from a reliable source. Do you also have a number for "the top international men's servers."?

Well, probably faster than a lot of guys on the USA Men's team. Geez louise have you seen Lotman or David Smith or Holt serve? I could throw a batch of tollhouse cookies in a preheated 325 degree oven when those guys toss from the endline for their jumpers, and the cookies will be done by the time they serve it and the ball crosses the net.

Back in the day Minnesota would flash the results of the radar gun on the scoreboard for every player who hit a jump serve. Top server (for velocity) was Cassie Busse who sometimes would hit the jump spinner in the low 60's. But the top scorer by far was Lindsey Berg who could change speeds, hit to spots on the floor, and impart variety of spins with control. She was amzing. Her knee injuries kept her from using her serving talents in the professional leagues and in her USA career.
