I know WC is a FIVB senior event with 14 on roster - question was what is roster size of Olympics? Has been 12 in past, but not sure if recent FIVB roster size change will be reflected there. I thought Olympic rules were set at start of the quad (which was before FIVB changed rosters size). From my understanding it's 14 player roster with 2 libero's, but only 12 of them can be in uniform the other 2 in the stands., but changes can be made for each match as needed.., it"s like taking 2 altern. as back up... If Olympic rosters are like past years, the two alternates can only be switched with a starter "before the first match".

ok, the USA walks away winners of the largely meaningless Grand Prix and Pan Am Games. Now the real fun starts, the large International Olympic qualifier event, the World Cup, is fast approaching. All the teams (except Brazil) will be sending their A teams. so lets get down to the nitty gritty...who is going from Team USA? Obviously we need to field the 7 best players to play against the best. To me thats 1-Larson 2-Hill 3-Akinradewo 4-Harmotto 5-Banwarth .....Glass is still in rehab, so until we hear anything different we have 6-Kreklow Lowe seems to be getting all the A team starts so far sooo 7-Lowe Who do the remaining spots go to? Honestly, I'd love to see Hagglund get some reps with the A team. her defensive is superb. I think Robinson is an absolute lock as well as Easy. Glass is for sure out, so you have Kreklow and who knows. Dixon probably earned a spot, and I personally would like to see Fawcett as the second RS.

Probably this line-up. However, I could see Karch adding Gibby and subtracting Vansant. Five OHs seems like overkill, and while it'd be nice to get Vansant more high quality experience, she probably wouldn't play much since the US will probably ride Larson and Hill as much as possible with Robinson being first reserve. I think Karch will rotate the three OHs like he did in Omaha. It's a rigorous tournament. People assume she's in there for her back court game but Robinson hit a higher efficiency attack than Hill or Larson throughout the Grand Prix.

They are bringing 4 middles. No way they play Akinradewo and Harmotto day-in and day-out. why not? There are some weak teams they don't need to play against.

No time for adjustments at the World Cup. The US will have to come out with their best right out of the blocks because they start with Korea, Serbia, and China in the first three days. Then it’s five cupcakes, Peru, Algeria, Kenya, Argentina, and this year Cuba. Then a big showdown with Russia that could be for first or second and a finish with a dangerous home opponent in Japan and the Dominican Republic. With a points formula similar to the Grand Prix and not the knock out style of the Olympics every match is important but truthfully this is really only a six team tournament.

I just realized this (also I'm skipping ahead a few years here), but why is the 2019 World Cup in Japan, when Japan is already qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics? I understand that the FIVB adores Asia, but what's the point if the host isn't going to even be in the tournament?

If so, what European team is most likely to make it to the Olympics? If none qualify in the World Cup, the next chance to qualify is at the European Qualifier in Turkey. The first place team there qualifies while the 2nd and 3rd are sent to the World Qualifier where they'd have to finish top 3 against the top Asian competition and the North American 2nd place in order to qualify. We don't know what the squads look like but Russia seems to be the favorite with Serbia, Turkey and Italy close behind. The Netherlands and Germany (if Furst does return) would be outside shots. A maximum of three European teams can qualify.
