On the Mountain View website if you go on the calender of each team it lists every team going to the SCVA Qualifier. Interesting to note they are choosing this qualifier over the No Dinx NCVA qualifier. not really. SCVA is the premier bid tournament with the best competition and the most recruiters...and the most bids.

Kind of interesting top East Coast Teams travel to St Louis and Chicago and even try to go out west. Midwest teams are beginning to travel to East Coast Championship to get bids. You never see west coast teams come to East looking for a bid. Bet if they would come east over memorial day it would change the dynamic of the East Coast tournament. Many of the MVC teams at the lower levels (since 18's did not come this year) made gold bracket and took bids. Uh, not really. There is a reason you never see Illinois, Pennsylvania, and California teams at East Coast Championships. It's a really good one too. However, California teams could certainly come to the Feb Bid tourneys in the Midwest and East. But seeing as no Mid west and East Coast teams will be going to Anaheim, the Cali programs are ecstatic as they won't have any stolen like in previous years = they won't need to travel What do you mean "they wont need to travel"? Cali teams never travel outside of CA for a bid tourney.

Doesn't it really boil down to this simple question: do I have a better chance at finishing top 10 at SCVA or top 3 or 4 at NoDinx? That answer will determine which qualifier you go to. The bottom line is going where you have the best chance to get a bid. The good teams will get their bids, it's the bubble teams that will have tough decisions to make.

Based on a quick glance at the 17s nationals results and the chatter about next year, it would be conceivable that if the SCVA tourney was held at a better time there could be 8 to 12 teams from the Mid and East would could create havoc for bids. SPRI, LI , NVVA , Eden, Victor, Yorktowne, St. Louis, Coastal, Milwaukee Sting and maybe some growth from the Ultimates, Pace and Florida teams. Pretty sure all of these programs have come West before and many of them were right on the cusp this year it seems. In the 18s that could have been bad news for a number of Cali teams, one would think. So now.....they really would not "need" to travel. Just musing.

Doubt you would see Wisco teams going to a Cali bid event in early Jan. Already tough enough on them with Chicago in mid-Jan.
Remember that Wisco has HS season in Fall and that the club teams typ don't have tryouts till mid-late November. They're lucky to get a few practices in by beg of Jan with the holiday's thrown in the mix.

Final finishes from 16 Open and my opinion whether they are a contender or a pretender next club season 1 Spectrum 16's - Contender (best setter in age group, best coach in age group, and hitters just understand what they need to do to win. libero very solid and they are also adding 6'6 opposite / outside hitter Colin Bailey for next season who played with them 15's year) 2 Balboa Bay 16Asics - Contender (Pender is arguably best player in age group and he is a true 2018 so he could play 16's next season, solid setters and middles, could add 6'8 middle blocker Kyler Presho from San Clemente) T-3 MB SURF NIKE 16's - Contender (JP Reilly and Chris McBee might be best 1-2 punch at the pins in the entire age group, have one of the best liberos in the age group in Louis Murray, could get SMBC setter Chris Hall) T-3 Roch PaceBootleggr161 - Pretender (although they have one of the best libero in the age group in Spencer Wickens and one of the top recruits in Charlie Siragusa, the pins and middles are not that big and their setter is 5'6. still should do well in 17 Open but tied for 5th in probably the ceiling for this team) T-5 SMBC 16 Black - Pretender (very solid team with a great libero in Gerson Lima, setter Chris Hall is solid but rumors are going around that he might move to MB Surf, pins are solid but not great. Similar situation to Pace where they are a very good team but medaling is probably not gonna happen for this team in the 17 Open age group) T-5 A`o A Koa Volleyball 16-1 - Pretender (Hugh Hogland is one of the best up and coming recruits in the class of 2017, but their setter is small, their middles are non descript and their outside Ethan Siegfred did not have a good nationals. good but not great) T-5 NCVC Asics 16-1 - Pretender (solid team but no standout players so they will most likely fall off the radar in 17s and 18s) T-5 BORINQUEN COQUI 16-1M - Pretender (Gabi is a monster but the rest of the team is done growing and small. they should still come in the top 10 at nationals but probably will not place much higher than that) Other Teams To Watch: Bay to Bay (if they find a way to keep Joel Schneidmiller) Eden (Devin Joslyn and Matthew Payne are both very solid pins, if Griffin Schmidt decides to stay down this team could be deadly) HPSTL (Leo Henken is a big time pin hitter, and Kade Bontrager Ethan Bell and Jacob Swyers are all very solid players) Pacific Rim - Contender - team centered around Gage Worsley possibly Eli Gabriel Irizarry Thomas Nelson Zevan Williams Akash Dkothar Evan Thelen Kyle Merchen and maybe even Joel Schneidmiller this team could definietly challenge the likes of MB SURF Spectrum and Balboa. People thought Pace was going to fall off the radar this year as well. I don't think you can really call them a pretender. Other than Balboa they were the only team to medal two years in a row.

I'm pretty confident sam lewis is going there. This is an educated guess but I think the starting lineup will be: OH - Erik Beatty OH - Mason Tufunga S - Tanner Woods MB - Shane Holdaway MB - Sam Lewis L - ? Oppo - Aaron Strange
