Don't forget Shane Holdaway. He played up last year on HBC18's. I wonder if he'll stay with HBC now that the team he played with for two years is gone.

He goes to Huntington also. With the transfers they are getting, I don't know if Huntington will lose. Huntington, Loyola, and cdm are gonna be craZy battles again.

Pac Rim trying to create 17s all star team centered around Gage Worsley playing oppo. Other players could be Thomas Nelson (libero), Joel Schneidmiller (outside), Evan Thelen (outside), Kyle Merchen (Setter), and Zevan Williams (middle). We all know by now Roger Worsley can make anything happen. If this team forms they would be a major threat to Balboa Spectrum MB Surf and Pace.

We all know by now Roger Worsley can make anything happen. If this team forms they would be a major threat to Balboa Spectrum MB Surf and Pace. Seeing as Eli Irizarry formerly of Coastal 17s is already in California to play for this Pac Rim team, it is unlikely that Merchen will be a setter. Instead, Eli would likely run the offense, with Worsley being a passing oppo or libero depending on what Williams ends up playing. With Merchen and Thelen playing outside and Akash Dhokar possibly playing as a backup pin hitter or another middle, this team looks to have great ball control (typical of a Pac Rim team) and an offense to match, likely making them a contender in the upcoming 17s year. However, Schneidmiller is unlikely to join this team, due to travel distances and comfort with his current Bay to Bay team.

Eli visits there during the summer and hangs out with the Worsleys. He's not playing there this year atleast. He has already moved twice for volleyball so I wouldn't be surprised.

STL high performance 18s who got bronze at JOs had 2 kids that were juniors as well Yeah but only 1 of them was a starter. STL High Performance 18s will be very talented next year at the pin as well as in the middle with 6'10" George Huhmann there.

Eli is going to be a junior. I know Coastal's 17's team was good both at the 16's and 17's level with a strong set of players but the 18's coach at coastal has been a rotating number of coaches to fill the slot and that they have never gotten a good coach since Kevin Jones moved to the 17's team. The 16's team moving up is also weak. Also know he was the setter for the A1 select team that played at the international level so nothing would be a surprise.

Bischoff (S) Meyer (OH) Kotsakis (RS) Piekarski (MH) Spri 18-2s who got 5th this past nationals had 4 players that were juniors. Marzuki (L) Petersen (OH) Dedmond (DS) Mitchem (MH) Spri 18-3s who got 5th this past nationals (club) had 4 starters that were juniors. Carroll (OH) Reynolds (OH) Pavlov (RS) McKinney (MH) That's 12 players with experience playing 18s, all losing in the medal round. Next year for SURE, right?

All this talk about people last year playing up on their 18's team like it's some big deal. In California all the 17's teams play in the same division as the 18's for the entire club season, so they are always "playing up". The only time they only play other 17's teams is at the qualifiers and Nationals.

With few exceptions, there are only 16s and 18s tournaments in the midwest, so the 15s and 17s always "play up", except at nationals of course.

Courtland, who was on Coastal 18 Navy this year, will be a senior next year as well. So Coastal might have logjam at setter. Such a terrible problem to have. Should be interesting to see where the pieces fall!

Final finishes from 16 Open and my opinion whether they are a contender or a pretender next club season
1 Spectrum 16's - Contender (best setter in age group, best coach in age group, and hitters just understand what they need to do to win. libero very solid and they are also adding 6'6 opposite / outside hitter Colin Bailey for next season who played with them 15's year)
2 Balboa Bay 16Asics - Contender (Pender is arguably best player in age group and he is a true 2018 so he could play 16's next season, solid setters and middles, could add 6'8 middle blocker Kyler Presho from San Clemente)
T-3 MB SURF NIKE 16's - Contender (JP Reilly and Chris McBee might be best 1-2 punch at the pins in the entire age group, have one of the best liberos in the age group in Louis Murray, could get SMBC setter Chris Hall)
T-3 Roch PaceBootleggr161 - Pretender (although they have one of the best libero in the age group in Spencer Wickens and one of the top recruits in Charlie Siragusa, the pins and middles are not that big and their setter is 5'6. still should do well in 17 Open but tied for 5th in probably the ceiling for this team)
T-5 SMBC 16 Black - Pretender (very solid team with a great libero in Gerson Lima, setter Chris Hall is solid but rumors are going around that he might move to MB Surf, pins are solid but not great. Similar situation to Pace where they are a very good team but medaling is probably not gonna happen for this team in the 17 Open age group)
T-5 A`o A Koa Volleyball 16-1 - Pretender (Hugh Hogland is one of the best up and coming recruits in the class of 2017, but their setter is small, their middles are non descript and their outside Ethan Siegfred did not have a good nationals. good but not great)
T-5 NCVC Asics 16-1 - Pretender (solid team but no standout players so they will most likely fall off the radar in 17s and 18s)
T-5 BORINQUEN COQUI 16-1M - Pretender (Gabi is a monster but the rest of the team is done growing and small. they should still come in the top 10 at nationals but probably will not place much higher than that)
Other Teams To Watch: Bay to Bay (if they find a way to keep Joel Schneidmiller) Eden (Devin Joslyn and Matthew Payne are both very solid pins, if Griffin Schmidt decides to stay down this team could be deadly) HPSTL (Leo Henken is a big time pin hitter, and Kade Bontrager Ethan Bell and Jacob Swyers are all very solid players)
Pacific Rim - Contender - team centered around Gage Worsley possibly Eli Gabriel Irizarry Thomas Nelson Zevan Williams Akash Dkothar Evan Thelen Kyle Merchen and maybe even Joel Schneidmiller this team could definietly challenge the likes of MB SURF Spectrum and Balboa.
