I would say Mike Sealy is profoundly fortunate to have had a walk-on like Karsta Lowe turn into the prolific nation-leading offensive workhorse that she was last year. She blasted over 7 kills/set at a .350+ clip against PSU in the tourney last year and they still got swept due to lack of any sort of balance. His scholarship-receiving recruits just aren't up to par with the top-tier of the Pac-12.

. Are the standards higher at UCLA than Cal is that the issue? of cos the standard at UCLA is higher than Cal. One has won 4 national championships and the other has none. Some UCLA fans are not happy with Sealy and they should be. How could you win a national championship and have the worst ever season just two years later. He should have used that as an effective recruiting tool to bring in better players. Instead he played it cool and chose not to offer some of the californians that picked UW and UO The LMU loss is horrible not because they lost but the way they lost. They did not lose in a nailbiter but they are owned while playing at home I dont think Sealy is on the hot seat. This year is gonna be bad but he has his best recruiting class coming in next year.

I know nothing about Cal. The only thing I know is of their success years ago. Can someone enlighten me? Is it a tough school to bring recruits in? Is the coaching philosophy more of the problem? Injuries are playing a huge role in their struggle? Cal recruits well and have more top 20 players than UCLA (4 to 2). wonder what will happen if Chiaka Ogbogu did not decommit? They used to recruit very well in Texas but I wonder if that change with the retirement of Bigelow(sp)? Unfortunately injuries are hurting them this year. I dont think Gooden Smith who is 5th ranked in her class play like a top recruit last year. I think their passing and setting were terrible last year

Summary of Cal since that national championship final appearance in 2010 2011 Projected starters: S: Barrett OH: Murrey, Gehan (Neumayr), Opp: Johnson (Higgins) MB: Hawari, Brown (Schonewise) L Rostratter (Neumayr out for season due to injury, Gehan in and out with injury, Higgins as a sub, settings issues)
2012 Projected starters: S: Caloiaro, OH: Gehan, Neumayr, Opp: Johnson (Higgins) MB: Hawari, Brown (Schonewise) L: Rostratter (primary passers Neumayr/Rostratter out for season, Johnson in and out with injury, replaced by Vukasovic/McKennon/Higgins, no passing)
2013 Projected starters: S: Caloiaro (Jensen), OH: Gehan, Neumayr Opp: Higgins, MB: Schonewise, Vukasovic (Jordan), L: Kerr (don't remember injuries, maybe Gehan, passing stabilized with addition of Neumayr and Kerr, porous blocking, no go-to terminator)
2014 Projected starters: S: Jensen, OH: Neumayr, Smith-Gooden (Alftin, Gombar), Opp: Higgins (Dempi) MB: Schonewise, Vukasovic (Jordan), L: Kerr (Neumayr retired, Higgins moved to non-passing OH, Smith-Gooden/Alftin/Gombar rotating OH2, Vukasovic split time at MB with Jordan and OPP Dempi. Only Jensen played all the way around, no passing outside. Setting was below average, partly due to passing, and blocking was very porous)
2015 Jury still out, starters last weekend S: 6-2 with Jensen, Albrecht OH: Alftin, Gombar (Gooden-Smith injured, Shekelle) MB: Vukasovic, Jordan (Schonewise and Rennie injured) Opp: Castillo, Dempi/Annevelink (Rennie injured, Jordan) L: Kerr, Kirtley (McKennon + 3 other DSes) Passing/setting/blocking remain issues that the return of the injured players doesn’t resolve….
Injuries aside, a lot of talent but either not realized, or in the wrong areas. Problem is that everyone is too specialized, and their average hitters are below average passers, and their average passers are below average hitters. They really need an elite terminator and/or all-around outside. And don’t see any coming in based on PV’s Senior Aces list of schools.
Hoping for a pleasant surprise, but may be another long season…or more

LSU is 1-5 after picking up its first win over Xavier today. FRF is quite safe, coming off a 20 win season and NCAA appearance. Her teams typically lay an egg every few seasons, this maybe it.

If Georgetown isn't on the hot seat now, she never will be.

How many scholarships does Georgetown fund? If all 12, how long has the coach had to work with a fully funded program?

CAL added a loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay which is not as bad as a loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee but isn't exactly a loss to Wisconsin-Madison.

You're right about the recent history.
