I also can't believe Badgerbreath scheduled something else for opening weekend, instead of being planted in front of his computer. Clearly he is rusty about the protocol for volleyball season. No life. Just volleyball. That's the protocol. If you really knew me and my life, you would believe it. Beginning of the semester I always screw up shifting into the new schedule. Meetings and events moving all over the place. Brain not big enough. I'm going to tune out now until I get to watch it on BTN later tonight...hopefully. I will reiterate what I said in the Wisconsin thread...this is a real test this early in the season. Veteran team used to playing each other and against high level competition running an unusual style against a badger team with a lot of changes. I expect Sheff will stick with his best guess at a starting lineup throughout this match to evaluate that lineup and develop some cohesion -- unless, that is, someone starts struggling or he feels he needs a matchup change. No subs just to get people time on court. Kriskova, Nelson, Carlini, Morey, and Bates at L1 pick themselves. I think we will see Gillis at L2, and Williams at MB because she provides something different. MacDonald DS'ing for Kriskova or Gillis - I don't know which, that will be interesting to watch. Blake comes in if we need more defense at the net. Interested to see how Tionna does on the block. I'll also be interested if he brings in anyone as service specialist, and who he keeps in for service. We may see different OH rotations in the other matches.

Scout team has absolutely been replicating WKU offense and defensive schemes for well over a week now. I guess time will tell how the match plays out.

Well then, no question Wisconsin has seen plenty of it and will be more than ready to play against it. Or, it will take some time to adjust as there will be a huge crowd and all of the other beginning of the season variables. The fact is WKU has been doing it for years, and Wisconsin has just been trying to prepare for it. I think it's going to be a very competitive match and tough for both teams.

Not for nothing, but Chris from PrepVolleyball has this one going to five. That's a lot of stress for the first match of the season! I actually picked 4. I'm really hoping it actually turns out to be very competitive. It will be the best preparation for the team IMO.

I also picked 4. I would have possibly picked a minimum of 4 for any opening opponent, given the setting and team. My heart needs volleyball fandom conditioning, so at least for the first match I don't need excitement!

Not meaning to dive into @allamerican11 v. SportyBucky, just musing: Generally, the scout teams watch film and replicate the offensive and defensive schemes according to the scouting report. But how do they scout an opponent when there's no film of them this season, of this group playing together? Though I suppose with WKU, they could probably use footage from last year, seeing as how they return most of their starters. But generally, for a first weekend tourney, I bet teams are going in relatively blind.

SportyBucky (whose name I love) seems to think that Wisconsin spent "well over a week" preparing for WKU, and I think that's simply an uninformed statement. At this point in the season, I would think that most teams are more concerned with their side of the net than taking 7+ days of practices to prepare for one opponent. That just doesn't make very much sense. Fact of the matter is he has absolutely no idea how long Wisconsin has spent preparing for WKU because he isn't in the gym and isn't privy to Sheffield's scouting habits.

Setter the same? Same top player? Same coach? Haven't done research on WKU, but if so, you know many parts of the offense will be the same. However, I can say with certainty, Sheff and team have watched hours of film, drawn comparisons between this and last year, and have had the scout team play trying to replicate parts of offense and defense they expect to be similar or the same. Does it completely prepare them for THIS YEARS WKU team? No. Are they fully prepared? My assumption, knowing Sheff and this team, is that they are as fully prepared as they can be.

Your facts are others assumptions. You have no idea who I know, what my experience is with Wisconsin volleyball and their staff. Haven't lived in Madison for years, but I know staff members from my past life and have played with and against players from WI. I have also coached club and know how teams prepare.

Thinking about purchasing BTN can anyone advise on reliability? Wisky volleyball? in general?

I've never purchased it, but the first few years' reviews have not been glowing. Let's hope things have improved for 2015.
