couple of surprising things this match so far 1. I didn't think they'd use lawless on the right side. I thought this was going to be Carmona's year, as people have praised her athleticism before (although i have never seen her play much). They aren't using the right side much anyways 2. If you look at the stats, you'd think that Inouye is the libero and Formico the DS. She's beating formico in digs and assists, for only playing 3 rotations in the back row for Lawless, in right back where the least amount of balls go. Lawless just doesnt cut it well enough as a RS hitter. Next year will be a different story though with a hammer coming in. Van Winden. She's a good one.

There is not much to conclude from this match. Virginia didn't have anyone who could match up against Felix or Frager. Every team in the Pac-12 with one or two exceptions will bring a stronger block to the court.
Did anyone else watching on TV find the glare of the lights on the light colored floor to be annoying?

Muno will be setting by the time Pac play starts. She has been a hitter and passer her whole prep career and finally playing setter only. Give her a little time. She will pass Chandler soon enough. First match of the year, lots of question marks for a lot of teams. Not another setter controversy. I hope Sealy learned from past mistakes. You can't have two setters looking over their shoulder after every mistake to see if they are being subbed out.

Hate that gym with too many lines on the court and low ceiling.

I only saw about four minutes but I didn't see any technical problems yet with Chandler vis a vis Consani.

It'll be interesting to see Muno play (if she ever does).

UCLA just got better as the match wore on, impressed by Felix. I think UVA's bright spot is freshman Anna Walsh who hit .647 without any errors. But UVA's defense really let them down and their passing got worse especially in the last set.

Anyone else impressed by Anna Walsh? That girl can hit. She can do inside slides and her tip shots were spot on. Serve was pretty good too.

Lauren fuller is such a good setter... even in out-of-system plays she manages to put up great sets.

Where else was she recruited at? For a freshman, she definitely was very impressive.

It's funny how after 1 match on the season, people are saying Muno won't set at all for UCLA. I guess patience isn't a trait many people have.

There really isn't any setter controversy, IMO. Or at least there won't be one the day Miller sets foot on campus.

The Chandler-Buechler-Frager-Drolsen connection...years of playing together in club and high school showed tonight and it was fun to see these ladies take the court together.
