Bond mentioned to media that team was really bothered by tough atmosphere at Northern Illinois - packed house he called it. Box score listed attendance at less than 400. That can't bode well for playing on the road in the B1G. [/quote NIU is basically a high school gym. 400 would not fill it, but it would be well attended. Any fan noise gets elevated. It is a tough place to play especially if students were in attendence. I think it holds maybe 750.

I wonder why it is that the B1G almost always stumbles in the pre-season but not the post? Word.

I hope someone has one. Things are looking pretty bleak so far. Bleak as in PSU wins their 86th big ten and nc title? Well, everyone but PSU looks rough the first weekend, generally. And of course playing the likes of Buffalo helps. Michigan and Purdue perenially are the teams where it is hard to get a read on. And Michigan is always tough in the post season. Purdue started off great but then the top half of the Big Ten happened. Penn state has Stanford at rec hall next weekend. We will see where their at with the new setter and Libero and all. I expect them to be ready to go for tourney but may be work in progress early on. I know psu is at home but I feel Stanford's odds are still better at winning this early matchup just like last year.

It looked like a lot of frat guys in the three or four rows of end zone bleachers in DeKalb, which could be a distraction in a smaller gym. I watched the first two sets, and Iowa blew a 19-11 lead to lose the first one. Some costly hitting errors helped the Huskies come back.

I wonder why it is that the B1G almost always stumbles in the pre-season but not the post? Because Big Ten teams get better and try to peak by NCAA Tournament time. Pre-B1G is when you experiment with your lineups...

Watched the whole match and you're right on target with all of this, bucky415. Mental lapses are definitely killing Iowa so far this year. Almost cost them the Pacific match and they couldn't recover from the 1st set breakdown against NIU. Hitters that were swinging freely earlier got so tentative towards the end of the NIU match...other than Brobst. Dang, she's a beast! When they were "on" against SDSU and in first two sets against Pacific, they looked great and so much more offense than we're used to from the Hawks. Still hopeful that this is related to so many new players and needing time to gel but in the meantime, that last match was ugly. And if they don't get things figured out, could be an ugly trip to Hawaii!

I wonder why it is that the B1G almost always stumbles in the pre-season but not the post? If you take Penn State out of the equation, the Big Ten isn't exactly spectacular in the post-season.

I wonder why it is that the B1G almost always stumbles in the pre-season but not the post? If you take Penn State out of the equation, the Big Ten isn't exactly spectacular in the post-season. Let's look at 2014: Michigan State - BEATEN BY #1 STANFORD IN ROUND 2. Not an upset. Illinois - BEATEN BY #8 FLORIDA IN ROUND OF 16. Not an upset. Nebraska - who had a rough regular season, gets upset by BYU in the the ROUND OF 8. BYU ended up in the Championship. Ohio State UPSETS Kentucky in the second round, nearly upsets WISCONSIN in the round of 16. Well, somebody has to lose, right? Wisconsin loses to PENN STATE in the round of 8. Again, somebody from the Big Ten has to lose. What exactly are you looking for? 4 in the Final Four? Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State overachieved based on their Big Ten season, and MSU got paired with a #1 in the second round, and two teams had to play two other Big Ten teams. Is it because Penn State has the only title from the Big Ten? Do you know how few teams have an NCAA title? 10.

Nebraska has been in a region final several times over the past years. UW in a FF, Illinois a final, UW in a regional final, Purdue in regional finals, Michigan in a FF, MSU in a regional final............................. Please try to have ANY IDEA what you are talking about when you post. If you want to look ridiculous, knock yourself out, but try to keep PSU out of it.

I hope someone has one. Things are looking pretty bleak so far. They are? Yep. Want the list? Here you go: Wyoming over OSU TAMU over Minnesota Northern Illinois over Iowa W Kentucky over Wisconsin Cleveland State over Indiana Kentucky over MSU I personally think Minnesota only scoring 56 points in a sweep by the Cardinal counts, too. I'll give Rutgers a pass.

Meanwhile, good wins? Illinois over Louisville and Creighton, Nebraska over Pitt, Purdue over Ohio -- all decent, but none unexpected. The B1G has upset no one and lost to many teams which were either their equal or below. On paper anyhow.
