Well.. I mean it was their first real win of the season. They had a brutal OOC schedule, but look at their results: 1-3 @ USC 1-3 N BYU 3-0 N Chicago State (who?) 0-3 N Wisconsin 0-3 N Minnesota So, yes, they swept Stanford. But it's an odd result and certainly an outlier so far as they have barely been competitive against quality opponents. They also moved their All-American Middle back to that position (from L1), put a real outside in that position, and they started a new libero. I think the Heels can claim the current lineup may have been more competitive. and that Burgess not being out there helps as well! Agree with you regarding their line-up. That's why people shouldnt jump off buildings when teams struggle early. Sometimes it takes some losses to figure out what needs to happen to win. UNC has the horses to be a top team.

I agree people put way too much weight on early season results and don't account for the changes that are occurring from match to match as teams retool, or suffer injuries and have to adjust. It's hard to keep track of it all though.

I wish Penn State was playing Illinois and Wisconsin twice during the conference season. It seems so unfair with the unbalanced schedule.

Well, the idea is that it evens out over the long run with a random draw of matchups. This repetition of last year's schedule in reverse is almost exactly the wrong thing to do if you are going to structure a schedule this way.
Michigan should feel very hard done by having to play that schedule two years in a row. OSU too.

Caroline is an outstanding player AND has the best hair in D1. Every time my budding athlete sees her play, my daughter says "I would love to meet her and ask what she uses on her hair?" Being a child of the 80's, I favored Alexa Ethridge's hair. Has nothing to do with Big Ten sleepers and she is not even in the conference anymore but since it was brought up..........

I wish Penn State was playing Illinois and Wisconsin twice during the conference season. It seems so unfair with the unbalanced schedule. But it's balanced in a sense that between Nebraska penn state, Illinois and Wisconsin, none of them play all other 3 twice. Although psu and Wisconsin only have 1 of 3 twice. Nebraska prob has it toughest out of those 4. Adding Maryland and Rutgers hurt because before that every team basically had a home/away with every team. Nebraska was a good add but I think they should have left conference alone at 12 teams unless the team they really wanted in notre dame decided to join. Notre dame is like in very center of big country and big makes most sense for them but because of tv contract they want to be independent in football and big won't do what acc let them do basically picking sports they wanna be independent in. It's no secret that the big has been after notre Dame forever

I'm ready for conf season there is no excitement in beating up on practice squads which is what psu is basically playing right now. Was excited about that Stanford sweep until they got swept by unc and barely hung on against duke. I'm ready for some competition.

Maryland picks up a nice win against Texas Tech (6-2) to move to a perfect 9-0. I know the competition is about to get much tougher (@ Oklahoma, neutral vs Washington, neutral vs Southern Cal), but it's great to see Maryland cleaning up in non-conference play.

What a day for the B1G! May not be a power team win over another power team, but 19-1 with Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, and Iowa flexing their muscles. The conference season is going to be awesome!
