Denial is any Husker fan who will swear up and down that Nebraska would still have left the Big 12 for the Big 10 even if they were still dominating the conference in football; same with A&M. Great that you left for more money, but you left because your program admitted its days of winning conference football championships in the Big 12 were over. If you can't beat 'em, run away from 'em (with your tail between your legs) . . .
Denial ----> not just a river in Egypt You honestly believe that Nebraska left the Big 12 because of this? It's the most idiotic and absurd thing I have read lately on VT. Who's your source? or do you just believe this in your head. So, you think there's a link with a story out there where Nebraska admits they left the Big 12 due to lack of success on the football field? Okay. LHN didn't come into play until well after Nebraska had announced it was joining the B1G. So, let's get that straight for anyone who continues to use that as an excuse. Nebraska agreed to unequal revenue sharing when the Big 12 was formed; and, they voted against a conference TV network. They thought they had the leverage in football to demand more TV money than the other teams in the conference based on their success and history. They can claim any reason they want to for leaving, but it wasn't LHN and unequal revenue sharing. Look at the teams that left to join different conferences: Nebraska, Colorado, A&M, Mizzou, Maryland, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Louisville. Which one of those were schools who were recently winning football conference championships? Louisville perhaps. Nebraska hadn't won the Big 12 conference football championship since 1999. And, last national championship was 1997-98. Their appearance against Miami in a later championship game was a sham as they had just been drubbed by CU in their last game. Oklahoma and Texas were so far ahead of Nebraska in football in the 2000's that everyone could see the power shift clearly to the South teams. OU had won a national title and played for 2 others; Texas had won a national title and played of for one other. Heck, even Colorado and Kansas State had won the championship at least once in the 2000's. Nebraska -- a couple of runner-up finishes, and no major BCS bowl bid (even Kansas got one of those). Since the Big 12 began play in 1996, Nebraska football went 1-8 against Texas. They weren't beating Texas on the football field, or in recruiting. But, yeah, Nebraska didn't leave because they weren't having football championship success in the Big 12 the last decade . . . .

why i don't think it matters........ is because both teams will both be at a whole different level by the time NCAA tourney arrives. Winning now won't be an indication of who will be better in DEC.
Should be fun to watch nonetheless. This early season match between Top 5 teams (at the moment) will impact the NCAA seedings and regionals. The joy and pride of winning is moreso what the fans get out of it. How the teams play Friday doesn't really translate into how they would play in December; that part I agree with (assuming that is your main point). This is particularly true for TX as their regular season opponents don't really help their cause when it comes to seeding.

How has Nebraska earned a #4 ranking? Ready, set, go... They returned every player except one, Mary Pohlmiller, setter, and we have an even better setter in Kelly Hunter. And picked up the best freshman in the country last year.

Isn't this a moot point since neither TX or NE are anywhere near winning anything in football? I mean TX barely makes it to a bowl and NE can't beat Northwestern.

If Texas uses the same line-up as last weekend, then I think the Huskers will come out with the win. MBs Chiaka & Morgan and McCage on the RS can provide the offense ONLY if the passing is there. Defensively, those 3 will put a formidable wall, but having Chloe on the front row will be a challenge with Nebraska's LS hitters. If Texas has to rely on Amy and Paulina/Yazzie for out-of-system plays, I think those players will be shut down easily, as well as McCage if she has to attack with a 2-foot approach. Although team floor defense seems much improved from previous years, passing on serve-receive was still too inconsistent to run the middle and RS slide attacks consistently. Now, if Ebony plays in a 5-1 or if they run a 6-2 with Dalton/Ebony, then I think the outcome may be very different. If Ebony is healthy

Any good recommendations from Longhorn fans for dining in Austin? We're staying at the W downtown and looking for something within walking distance that's locally owned and non-corporate. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! Deepends on what your price range and tastes are. Lambert's BBQ is good and right around the corner. Moonshine (southern comfort) is great for brunch/breakfast. Uchi (asian influenced, top chef winner) is a few minutes away, but worth the uber/bus/drive. La V is nice. I also really like the Parkside. When in Austin, visit a food trailer...Torchy's tacos is great. Gordoughs is indulgent. LaBBQ is one of the best BBQ joints in the country, according to GQ, food and wine and a few others.

The Big 12 was and still is not a very stable conference. NE left because of what was happening at the time. Comments made by OU's Boren just proves this point. This next time is maybe the other Big Red making noise.
