If Elliot kept her status some sort of secret or made it appear she wouldn't play and it worked, than good for him. How would that be shady? It would appear to me she was probably only able to go one match this weekend, and if that was the case they determined that match would be Nebraska. It is pretty clear what her presence and impact is on how good Texas is. Did Nebraska not think Texas wasn't going to have great athletes on the floor? I can tell you two things for certain, Nebraska fully anticipated her playing, and that they were more concerned with their own side of the net at this point in the season, as is pretty much everyone.

You can try to paint someone in a negative light all you want. It wasn't shady and you repeating it multiple times just makes you look like a troll.

So I haven't posted about the match but I did have a few things I wanted to say. I had a real bad head cold develop and was out for the count. I did watch the match on Longhorn Network. First I wanted to say I was really impressed with Texas. They did struggle some what with serve receive but there out of system kills were something worth noting. Also, Chloe Collins has definitely proved me wrong here. I thought her running the 5-1 was a total liability for them this season. I thought she did great, and her ups on blocking were something spectacular. She ran a very nice system for Texas, I thought she did a way better job then Kelly Hunter did. Ebony controlled the match and was the difference maker.
Nebraska played a very poor match. I felt this was like basically watching last years team. I was surprised to read over all these posts and not see people disappointed with Hunter's performance. I thought she was outplayed and didn't put a lot of her hitters in good positions. Placement was quite an issue that night. Offensively, it was one of most sloppy things I've seen. Nothing worth complimenting here for the Huskers. I thought Foecke was taken out of the match with little effort by Texas. Nebraska's middles did quite well. Kadie is a great player and did well this match. Nebraska's back court did decently, but serving errors were over-the-top. Kenzie and Hunter threw some bombs that weren't even close. Real disappointed in their effort and found myself quite embarrassed for them honestly.
I do think they have lots of potential in them, but they have their work cut out for them. No way this match should have went 5. I think the only silver lining was the fact that they did not panic and just stayed in it. Very early for them, so things are understood, but I expected much more after what I saw them do the weekend prior.
Also, Fien must be inserted as L1. Anni just isn't there yet for a top 5 program. Had Fien been in the whole match, things might have been a little different.
Texas looked great and they will be competing for a title this year. Ebony was a great addition for them.

That is why he said "shady" and not "illegal". You are making it a bigger deal by your comments. Normally people who "hate drama" seem to contribute quite a bit too it. As far as my thoughts? He can say whatever he wants, but I agree, it was a bit "shady" if he knew she would play. I have no clue if he knew that however. If I was Elliot I probably would have done the same thing. He doesn't owe it to give Nebraska a heads up. He owes his team a strategic advantage. So I guess I'm "shady" as well. You're making an assumption about what Elliott was thinking. There's no love lost between Elliott and Cook but it doesn't seem like him to be playing mind games especially with the health of a college player. The quote in the paper took everyone by surprise, because I am pretty sure she warmed up last weekend during the 3 matches. I guess I could be wrong, But I took the quote at face value and was surprised when I saw her before yesterday's match stretching, etc with the team. What we don't know is what happened between the day of the quote and Friday's match. I'll bet $$$$$$$ that Ebony wanted to be on the court and has been undergoing intense therapy to be ready. I'll also bet that the trainers cleared her on Thursday or possibly Friday morning. BTW, anyone know when Cook decided that the Rolfzen sister was not playing? She played last week. Was it a game time decision? Did he text Elliott with the news? Did Elliott have to change his game plan for the match? Also, the Statesman Reporter - Ryan Autullo - is a very good reporter. The Statesman has added several staff to the sports department. They were hit by several retirements a year or so ago when staff were offered early retirement packages. The Statesman has been more active with Texas Volleyball, but Football comes first. I don't even know if there is a story about the Nebraska match online. I didn't see it which would not be good. But my internet search skills may not be that good. Finally, thank goodness Texas is sportsbucky's 2nd favorite team. Can you imagine what he would post if he didn't like Texas? Thanks, elevation. I wasn't the only one surprised by Ebony playing. Good surprise, but surprised nonetheless.

Dalton came in and got a couple good blocks , but I wish we could see her as PPC's DS. I think she has better ball control and could also hit out if the backrow if needed!

I actually felt I was defending him in a roundabout way. very roundabout! I just don't see Elliott playing games with a player's injury.

I don't think anyone really knows how healthy Dalton is, but it appears her court time will be limited for awhile. But just can't see her playing DS this season. Anyway, my feeling is once the team gets into Big 12 play, a back row of Beard with Brooks and McCoy will do just fine. This will give Dalton time to play as needed and get stronger and be ready for post season when the team will need her on the front row against tougher competition.

My partner and I just wanted to thank the Longhorns and the people of Austin for a stellar Labor Day weekend! It was great to be back at Gregory Gym, even on 100-degree days. By the way, you Texans sure don’t scrimp on the AC! (Note to self: bring a jacket or hoodie for the next summer visit to Austin, because so many interiors are kept like walk-in freezers!) We ended up scoring much better seats this time but still ended up moving to sit with the rest of the Husker fans on Friday. Of all the college volleyball venues I’ve seen, I gotta admit that Texas and PSU have the best student sections. The students were relentless at both of Texas’ matches this weekend, and it reminded me how the students need to be unified at the Devaney instead of split up among the four corners of the court. As a 7-year-removed UNL undergrad, I always wished the student section at the Coliseum was bigger and louder, and I remember hearing that Cook & Co. still want to find a better solution for the students at the Devaney, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the end product will resemble something like the wall of students at Texas and PSU matches.
Outside of volleyball, we had a blast seeing the city and mingling with the locals! I loved the metropolitan-meets-college-town ambience of Austin, along with that intrinsic political vibe found in state capitals. Austin definitely has the yuppiness and kooky hipsters of Lincoln (minus the “Y’alls”), and for its southernness is surprisingly devoid of rednecks. Everyone we encountered was so friendly, engaging and demonstrative of Southern hospitality. Big shout-out to Blaine and Davey, whom we met at the Texas-Nebraska match, for taking us out to the 6th Street (Lincoln’s O Street) and 4th Street bars and clubs where we danced our booties off on Saturday night well into the morning! By the way, everyone was so right about the culinary scene in Austin: food trucks and BBQ galore! The pad thai noodles at a food truck called Blue Basil were on point, as was the BBQ at Lamberts. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations!
If the Huskers get sent to the Austin regional in December, we’re definitely coming back!
