When a player's family member told me at the bar before the match to expect a surprise tonight, I figured Elliott was gaming Cook since I read the article Thursday. In looking at the timeline of events, the article was actually posted to the Statesman's website Wednesday, published in print Thursday. Most likely, the quote was taken from Elliott in Monday's press conference. This isn't Nebraska where they have a beat writer assigned to the head volleyball coach. The paper isn't even printed in Austin anymore, reporters have lost their jobs, and you don't even get the previous night's sports writeups in the morning paper anymore. I doubt a reporter from the paper even talks to Elliott during the week. In hindsight, I believe that quote and everything in the article was totally accurate as of Monday when he said it (before practice). The paper printing it 3 days later is what made Elliott look "shady".

There is no way Nebraska didn't prepare for both Ebony playing and not playing. Cook's been around too long to be "gamed" by anyone.

Why aren't the Husker fans whinning about their own coach? Cook needs to try teaching his players how to serve. And get your "world beater" pins to place the ball within the square.
Nebraska can't handle Ebony, very few teams will be able to if she's healthy. JE shade had nothing to do with why Nebraska got beat. I don't even think Texas played very well.

Someone explain why Nwanebu is suddenly the greatest player in the country. I always liked her at SC even when she was struggling with her back problems there, but she never played the way she did against Nebraska. Apparently relief from her back troubles isn't the reason. Don't like Mick's game strategies, but nobody's going to convince me that Elliot is a better coach. Something in the water? BTW, nobody looks good in white and burnt orange.

I'm pretty sure Ebony had some tremendous matches her freshman year at USC. Ebony has stated recently that she never really felt comfortable at USC, and really missed being around her friends and family, including having her mother and brother in the stands watching her play. No need to try and convince you that Elliott is a better coach than Mick; (as your mind is already made up) but, he will break every record Mick owns before his coaching career is over. Haven't looked it up, but he may already be close to tying the number of Final Four appearances made by Mick, and in many less years.

The only shade I saw at the Nebraska-UT game was outside Gregory gymn under an umbrella. If a player suits up, no matter the sport, there's always a 50% 50% chance that player will play. I was expecting Morgan Johnson to play...she didn't. She was suited out. I expected to see Yaz play, she didn't and she was dressed to play. I even expected Nicole Dalton to play she dressed and she did play.(only played the fifth set for a couple of points but she played). Like I said earlier, a great team prepares. So if you're saying Nebraska was not prepared then you're implying they are not a great team. (and we know they are an awesome team) Thank you for your opinion but don't take anything away from Texas. By the way, if Nebraska had won, we would not have this conversation. One last thing, hate to disagree with you wonderwarthog79, but I know alot of people who look not only good but fabulous in white and burnt orange.

What's shady is Wisconsin losing to Western Kentucky. Go back to your own thread and stop trolling other teams pages. Did he do anything against the rules? No Too much fake internet drama sometimes and this is one example. That is why he said "shady" and not "illegal". You are making it a bigger deal by your comments. Normally people who "hate drama" seem to contribute quite a bit too it. As far as my thoughts? He can say whatever he wants, but I agree, it was a bit "shady" if he knew she would play. I have no clue if he knew that however. If I was Elliot I probably would have done the same thing. He doesn't owe it to give Nebraska a heads up. He owes his team a strategic advantage. So I guess I'm "shady" as well. You're making an assumption about what Elliott was thinking. There's no love lost between Elliott and Cook but it doesn't seem like him to be playing mind games especially with the health of a college player. The quote in the paper took everyone by surprise, because I am pretty sure she warmed up last weekend during the 3 matches. I guess I could be wrong, But I took the quote at face value and was surprised when I saw her before yesterday's match stretching, etc with the team. What we don't know is what happened between the day of the quote and Friday's match. I'll bet $$$$$$$ that Ebony wanted to be on the court and has been undergoing intense therapy to be ready. I'll also bet that the trainers cleared her on Thursday or possibly Friday morning. BTW, anyone know when Cook decided that the Rolfzen sister was not playing? She played last week. Was it a game time decision? Did he text Elliott with the news? Did Elliott have to change his game plan for the match? Also, the Statesman Reporter - Ryan Autullo - is a very good reporter. The Statesman has added several staff to the sports department. They were hit by several retirements a year or so ago when staff were offered early retirement packages. The Statesman has been more active with Texas Volleyball, but Football comes first. I don't even know if there is a story about the Nebraska match online. I didn't see it which would not be good. But my internet search skills may not be that good. Finally, thank goodness Texas is sportsbucky's 2nd favorite team. Can you imagine what he would post if he didn't like Texas?

She was 2013 Freshman of the Year and then was hurt as a sophomore all year; seems like she's close to back to full-strength now and playing like she did in 2013. Pretty easy explanation

I actually felt I was defending him in a roundabout way. Just to show that this is done all the time and is not considered shady by anyone other than trolls.... from twitter a few minutes ago... Texas A&M LB Otaro Alaka suited up. Kevin Sumlin was coy about his playing status this week (undisclosed injury).

Ebony didn't play and was in a boot versus Florida. If this was all a shady ploy, are they still faking her injury? It's pretty clear what the original poster of the comment is up to.
