I thought Nikki Taylor would win it as her overall numbers for the week: 5.20 KPS, 330%, 2.70 DPS and 1.50 BPS were phenomenal.

Congrats to Gwen Murphy and the NMSU program. Nice to see a former rival of UH getting national recognition.

I have no idea how Bricio doesn't win NPOW with those numbers against that competition, but I guess I don't get a vote.

If competition were a part of the equation, AVCA awards would only go to players from a handful of schools. I like that the AVCA gives everyone a chance at recognition. Congrats to Gwen Murphy and Coach Jordan.

Btw, Nikki Taylor's blocking stats alone are top 10 stats for blocking. Yes, Bricio played better competition but I don't see how she should have been a lock.

The AVCA awards the first week NPOW to a player from a lesser conference, not from the BIGS. They have done this for the past several years from what I can recall. For the NPOW for the 1st week last year a Hawaii girl from a small east coast school, and two years in a row to a player from a small school in a north eastern state. Just watch who gets it starting from next week on.

You changing your prediction for the Big West POY ?? Or sticking with Olevao? Lol, fetchin. I wanted to stand up for Manu-Olevao but it is clear that Nikki Taylor is the best player on this talented Wahine team. Taylor is the frontrunner for the Big West POY, imho. I do think that Manu-Olevao will be a great player this year. Having Granato come in to play backrow for her is a benefit for Tai and her teammates.

Week 1 and we're already hearing about Hawaii players winning every available award.

They almost always start out the season choosing a "no-name" from one of the Small-10 leagues..
