So we need to beat Japan.
And Japan needs to beat China. Which it sounds like it would not benefit Japan to win?
Do i have that correct?
If USA beats japan....and japan beats china
What place would USA be?

And only if China can beat Russia of course. I'm not sure if China could. They are unstable, playing great one moment and terrible the next. Whoever can play more consistently will win. Bet you are dancing now and happy to be wrong Hmmm... Seems like all my predictions are off lately. I thought Russia would beat Serbia, US will prevail over Russia and Russia would beat China. All wrong. For China, don't celebrate too early for them yet, they still got to beat Japan.

US would finish 2nd if either a) both their wins are in 3 or 4 sets OR b) japan beats china in 3 or 4 and one of US wins is in 3 or 4. If China loses to Japan in 5 AND one(or both) of US's wins are in 5, US would be third behind China. This is precisely why FIVB should make a rule that two continental countries cannot play each other on the last day of qualifying competitions (maybe even last 2 competition days). This would greatly reduce the scenarios like this where it is advantageous for a team to tank a match.

Where are Hui Ruoqi and Gamova? Hui Ruo Qi has a heart condition that was discovered before the World Cup. The coach didn't invite Gamova to play.

Yes, but would they really throw away this game? Yeah, they can pretend to try and intentional lose. But its not always so easy to intentional tank games by pretending to try to win. They are volleyball players, not actors.

Regardless,it's going to be hard for Japan to beat China. For those who watched the match, was China significantly better than Russia or did Russia make a lot of mistakes? Based on the stats, I noticed that they did not go to their middle hitters as much than yesterday against USA.

Based on the stats, I noticed that they did not go to their middle hitters as much than yesterday against USA. This was a brilliant match. Just finally watched it. It's really hard to watch college ball after seeing this type of quality play. I think the areas that China excelled against Russia (compared to the US), would be China's setter(s) are a little less predictable, they executed their service strategy more effectively (picking on Scherban), and they blocked well. I don't think Russia played poorly, even tho they didn't pass as well compared to the US match. Scherban actually held up pretty well. Maybe Gonchorova had a bad match but perhaps hitting against Zhu Ting's block got her rattled. It was really exciting seeing two of the world's best outside hitters in Zhu Ting and Kosheleva go head to head - throw in Gonchorova to that mix too.
