Pullman, Wash. - Oregon State's volleyball team extended its current winning streak to five matches, with a 3-1 victory against Washington State on Friday. The Beavers lost the first game before rallying to finish in the last three. The final margins were 27-30, 30-18, 30-27, 35-33.
"We got the 'W', but actually looking at the box score, we weren't clicking on all cylinders tonight," said Oregon State head coach Nancy Somera. "It was a struggle from the get-go. We came from behind in both games three and four, but we will take it."
The victory raises Oregon State's overall record to 8-3, and 2-0 in the Pac-10 - its best conference start since 1993.
Senior Allison Lawrence had her ninth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 17 digs. And freshman Nina Baltimore had a career-high night racking up 24 digs.
Karah Rhoades and Abby Windell had 14 kills each, while Amanda Eggert added another 10.
Despite 35 hitting errors, the Beavers had 75 kills to the Cougars 53, and also had a strong defensive night with 70 digs.
Setter Desma Stovall had 56 assists and also notched six digs.
Kristy Mortensen had 10 assists and three service aces to lead the Beavers.
"It's a 'W', we'll take it and move onto the Huskies tomorrow," Somera said.
Kelly Rosin led Washington State with 18 kills and 11 digs.
Oregon State takes on undefeated No. 2 Washington tomorrow night in Seattle. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
