Freshman redshirts are mostly planned. Rose (and Carpenter) knew there was a one-year gap between Glass and Hancock. I thought Hancock attending PSU was kind of a "last minute" thing. It was. She committed to Tulsa and decided to look at Penn State only after the Tulsa coach who recruited here left for (Alabama?).

She wanted to go to Tulsa to play with her sister. Ed Allen took the Alabama job and she didn't want to go there so she shopped around.

How much better would Penn State be this year if Rose had red-shirted Micah during her freshman year. He had a returning setter (Carpenter) who led PSU to the National Title the year before, and after one game she lost her spot. No wonder the announcers in the 2013 national championship indicated that previously the players at PSU were not playing for each other. Micah's freshman year at setter was not that great, (Carpenter would have done just as good) and if she was red-shirted that year, it would make this team much much much stronger. This team is doing pretty good. Actually probably better than the team at this point last year with Micha at the helm. At this point last year they lost to Stanford, Nebraska and Illinois and dropped a set at American. Just shows you how ridiculously high the expectations are for this team when you lose 1 match against a top 5 team and people start asking "if only" questions.

They had the team to win it all in 2011 but did not play as a team all the time(for each other) and it came back and bit them in the butt when they played UCLA.

I always see these discussions where people talk about redshirting as if the students in question have nothing better to do with their lives than to stay in college an extra year. Maybe they don't want to take five years to get through college. Micha was also recruited, heavily, when she opted out of her previous commitment. What was she promised?

She was promised that she would have to go to Minnesota four times and then never have to return to that dump again for the rest of her life.

LoopySilly's feeling grumpy. Plus he seems to think I care about his pathetic attempts to insult me.
Amusing boy, that LoopySilly.

OK, here's another answer to your question. She was promised a hell of a good chance to walk away from college with multiple national championship rings -- something Minnesota could not promise.

I don't know what Minnesota has to do with this. My question was about whether or not she would have gone to PSU if there was a chance she was going to be redshirted. My guess is that she was given a pretty good indication she was going to play right away.
Nothing to see here. Not accusing anyone of anything. I am responding to the original post.
But, please. Keep on being a total @$$%*!*. We expect no less from you, Loopy.
