Pavan for 2008, Cruz for 2012 I agree. Pavan would have helped a little in 2008, not enough to get an OGM. Cruz might have been a solid sub to replace Larson in the gold medal match in 2012 London. The US brought no solid backup passer hitters behind Tom and Larson. Did we have anyone else in the gym who could've stepped in as a backup? We have way more depth now than even last quad and obviously even more than 2008.

Am I the only one who thinks L2 was our biggest weakness in Beijing? Haneef had an awful hitting percentage in Beijing. The U.S. needed more balance out there. Glass wasn't great but she did enough.

Another interesting question: Karsta Lowe or Sarah Pavan?

Another interesting question: Karsta Lowe or Sarah Pavan? IMO Pavan isn't just better than Lowe but also Sheilla, Gonch, Boskovic, Diouf, Polen, Fawcett, and Murphy. She's always been an efficient attacker, server and decent blocker, and her floor defense has picked up considerably over the years. Last season in the Korean league, which also featured Hooker and Fawcett, Pavan led all players in points until she had to leave GS Caltex early for a beach function. (FWIW Hooker joined in the middle of the season, which explains why she didn't have the most kills.) Before KOVO, Sarah carried Unilever/Rexona-Ades to two consecutive Brazilian Superliga championships against Sheilla, Thaisa, Jacque, et al. She's still Prolific Pavan.

I still wonder if both April Ross and Kerri Walsh had been on the US Olympic team for indoor, would the US teams gotten gold during the last 2 Summer Olympics.

Another Puerto Rican that could have done well for the US NT is Greichaly Cepero (AVCA Player of the Year, Honda Award winner, First-Team AA) in 2004 for the Athens Olympics.

Perhaps Hildebrandt might have been a better option but she also has a history of shaky serve receive. Going into 2016, we seem to have a better depth in passing OH with Larson, Hill and Robinson. But maybe not as terminal as we'd like.

I've always wondered if Ross would be able to pass and especially terminate at the int'l indoor level. IMO Walsh would be a huge boost IF healthy. Either as an OH or a passing OPP. Image if we had her block.

Another interesting question: Karsta Lowe or Sarah Pavan? That's something to revisit once Lowe has a few years of experience. Both very terminal. Both horrible blockers. Big edge to Pavan on mental toughness IMO but again too early in Lowe's career to compare.

Walsh actually played in the Sydney games as our opposite. She wasn't our strongest player, didn't necessarily hurt us, but wasn't the offensive threat we see from our opposites after her...
