Serving, reception, blocking, and floor defense, will keep the Huskers in any match. If they could get their side out % to climb they'd make things much easier on themselves and win these types of matches in 3 sets.

Bailey's out with a knee injury...I think for the year. Yes. Bailey out with ACL tear. Tompkins dressed for match so that's a good sign. MSU switched to 5-1 with Peterson out so they are down a hitter. Up a hitter.* They had Tompkins available to sub on the right or in the middle, though I think she should've been starting.

Nebraska serve/block/dig is imposing after it gets rolling. Their volleyball is really good, and I agree those elements of their game when they get in a rhythm are IMO better than any team in the country. However, offensively they are really volatile, and that is a huge concern. On the nights when they arent great in those areas (OSU) it will be very hard for them to beat great teams because they don't have the arms that can carry them. Three weeks ago it looked like a team that was going to be carried offensively by the lefts, now....... I think they are awfully good, but I also think they are missing that one player you need to get you over the hump on the nights you aren't executing.

I like MSU's 5-1 much better than the 6-2 they were rolling with recently. I'm not sure I agree. The 5-1 puts too much pressure on Toliver and Kranda. Toliver was having quite a bit of trouble out-of-system after the first set. Though Minarick wasn't seeing many sets in the 6-2, Peterson runs her just enough to get good splits for the middle and left, which was very important because Kranda just isn't experienced enough as a pin attacker to take big OOS swings against a good double-block, and Reinig just isn't efficient enough to be relied on like that. Kranda's progression has been very impressive, and I have a lot of respect for what she's being asked to do (and doing), but big time matches like this in a big time conference require lefts who can score OOS. The 6-2 gets them some better opportunities. When I heard about Peterson being held out of the match and that they were going to run the 5-1, I was shocked that they weren't putting Garvelink on the right. She was absolutely lethal there at the end of last season. They've got to get her more swings.

Going into the season I thought for sure that Reinig and Fitterer would be the focal point of the MSU offense and it is interesting that they haven't been. Obviously Reinig has been injured but still. MSU can't seem to catch a break to get a consistent lineup.

Regarding Reinig and Fitterer being focal points, I never thought that would be the case. I thought Garvelink and Bailey would, and Garv still could, but not in the middle.

Nebraska isn't even in the top 50 for blocks per set... Their serving is good, but they rarely get aces. Not ranked in the top 50 for that either.. Nebraska defense keeps them in games. Bloxking and serving do not.
