Attendance 1,350. Crowd didn't seem to be much of a factor. I must admit that I am used to attending Hawaii matches at the Stan Sheriff Center with very loud crowds. I was surprised in watching several Pac 12 matches on TV and the crowds were relatively quiet for all of them. I remember the Washington crowd being very loud for the postseason matches against Hawaii in past seasons. Perhaps the TV broadcasts lack crowd noise microphones; if so a fan who actually attended the match can provide first hand observations. Mid-week Wednesday matches are for TV - they don't generally draw big crowds. Friday night vs ASU should be a much bigger and louder crowd.

IS Sybeldon in the conversation for POY? For the conference? Seems likely that will be Bricio.

The OH's are struggling for UW. I would love to see Cassie back on the outside to bring some fire back.

Was kind of quiet for a UW crowd, though it built through the match. That first set kind of quieted things down. There was a lot of really fun volleyball to watch after that. Arizona's floor defense is great, especially Snuka. Several long gone balls were chased down - particularly appreciated a high foot save uh front of the bench. Sybeldon`s night was so impressive. Some of the looks on AZ middles` faces after she bit past them for the umpteenth time were priceless. Tough night for them.

Lianna Sylbeldon was great, yes. But I wonder if Coach Rubio had, as the announcers suggested about a dozen times during the match, put a double or triple block on her the whole match. There was a single block on her all night. This drove the color commentator crazy. 19 kills, no errors and absolutely no adjustments! Yeah that and Zona's serving is pretty easy. Snuka was at net many rotations when Sylbeldon was. Don't think a double block involving her would help much. It is up to the opposing middle, which is a tough task; impossible task when Sylbeldon is in her groove. Snuka did play great tonight, but was not serving well much of match. Missed serves, and a few of her floaters were pretty "rainbow-ee" with not much float.

UW hit .128 the first two sets, but .452 the last two sets. Supergirl had something to do with that, of course.

Back from the game. The size of the crowd was disappointing, but the folks who did show up made some noise. Expect better Friday night.
Arizona played one good, consistent set (which would have been a true blowout but for Arizona's many service errors). They played well in stretches in sets 2 and 3, but couldn't quite put it together, and then just wilted in set 4. Mau was easily the best hitter on the court in the first set. I don't know why, but she was much less effective the rest of the match and I don't think the Huskies necessarily had a lot to do with it. Fatigue? Snuka's defense was crazy-good in the first couple sets and then just really good in sets 3 and 4. She sets a nice ball, too, but had to scramble to get too many errant passes. Arizona is THIS close to being in the Pac 12 elite but is missing a piece or two at this point.
Let us now praise Lianna Sybeldon. She is as close to a sure thing as the Huskies have had since I've been paying attention (only 3-4 years). She and Tanner have some good mojo going.
The Huskies are finding their way without Schwan, who I fear may be out for the bulk of the season (I have no further information, just my own fear). If Schwan can come back healthy in, say 4-6 weeks, then she should at least have a shot at getting the rust off before the tournament. Meanwhile, Julye will have grown a lot. Speaking of Julye, you can see her growing match by match. She was pretty terrible in the first set, probably nervous to get her first start and lots of time to think about it. But she settled down nicely. I'd say, right now, she's our best terminator on the outside (not counting Schwan). The setters believe in her -- she had the most attempts tonight of any Husky. I expect we'll see her role grow as her confidence grows and she cuts down on her hitting errors.
I've been a little down on Scambray lately so it was nice to see Tia have a good all-around match. She is really an integral part of the team, playing six rotations with generally good defense (tied with Cassie for team high 14 digs), blocking, serving, and (tonight) some pretty good terminating. Looking forward to more of the same against ASU.
UW's Opposites did not have a particularly good night. To me, it looks like Jones is afraid of making mistakes. When the Huskies warm up, Jones just crushes the ball. In games, she seems a little self-conscious when hitting, going for dinks or safe shots when should be unloading. You don't get the sense she is playing free and easy. Someone please free Crissy Jones!
ASU is shaping up as the best home match of the season so far.

The OH's are struggling for UW. I would love to see Cassie back on the outside to bring some fire back. Well, one of the reasons why the Washington outsides were struggling is that Coach Rubio decided to stack the block against the outsides, leaving just one blocker for the middles. For my team, Hawaii, the same was true. In the last two matches, the middles had field days with lots of kills and high hitting percentages. They stacked the block on the outsides, particularly on the right to slow down Nikki Taylor. Other teams will stack the block against Lianna Sybeldon, I'm sure, and her numbers will come down. However, Sybeldon is a terrific middle and I believe she still will do well, but with less spectacular stats. She is first team AA material.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you Lianna Sybeldon. All the talk around the country is about Washington, Ogbogu, and Alhassan but Sybeldon is one of the most underrated and she is certainly one of the best. I see you. She is amazing and a possible first teamer.
Poor Arizona they are a very good team a lot of close set loses and matches. It wouldn't surprise me if they upset a seeded team come tourney time they are dangerous.

You've been on this board for 11 years and you are just now surprised about attendance at a Pac 12 school for a midweek match? Washington is usually solid on attendance, but I swear we have the "attendance debate" almost yearly. Where the heck have YOU been?

So many of the Arizona serves were high loops. When they worked, they were really short, but more often they were just lollipops. Ad then there were all the service errors, especially in the 4th set. UW served pretty tough throughout, though Arizona still got good passes out of more of them than I expected.

One of the disadvantages of the 5-1 with a short setter - facing three hitters with only two blockers. Mau would have been on the left for two rotations - she had two blocks.
