FWIW, I like the fact that Cook is using lots of players, even bringing McGraw in to finish out the third set. I think it's a more inclusive approach that gets (literally) everyone involved, and it's not something we could have expected from JMac. Jim always seemed to somehow find a way to get everyone who wasn't redshirting at least some playing time. There hasn't been a season where she was healthy that Justice didn't get into a match, for instance. Jim was usually a little slow to put in subs even in what seemed to be blowout matches, but he's probably also seen more "blowout matches" turn into miraculous comebacks than Cook has. I do agree he probably wouldn't have put Justice in this match. And it was clear the rest of the team was super excited for her when she served that ace.

No, she never even came back to the bench. Whoopsie, yes my bad. I was misinformed and also looked at the wrong jersey number. For a moment during the match I thought that #22 was #12 and that she had somehow come back in. Perhaps you had the same confusion.

And when Condie wasn't in there, they were hiding Julye in serve-receive, with Strickland and Scambray in a two-person serve-receive. That way, all she had to worry about was hitting.
According to the match program, ASU had only 20 serve-receive errors for the season. UW put four on them.

Looked at my pictures from the match and I misremembered both Cassie's and Condie's positions on that incredible save at 2-2 in the second. Both were behind the back line, so Condie's save was longer than I thought. And we got the point.

I couldn't tell who it was, but I was surprised the ball had even been touched. There were actually three important touches on that dig.

That's a bummer about Gardner, I really hope it's not her ACL. 25-6? What happened in the first set? Is Washington that good or did ASU just fall apart? I wonder if that drastic point differential is a first for a team that's currently ranked in the top 10. Also that pic of Strickland diving for the ball just clearly demonstrates what a phenomenal athlete she is.

According to GoHuskies.com the 25-6 first set was the fewest points Washington has EVER held ANY Pac-12 team to since the start of rally scoring.

The most complete story I've seen on the match...and Gardner...is from Logan Newman in Tempe's State Press: Read the full State Press story HERE. Such a shame for ASU and especially for Gardner. Her senior season; just adding to school records; the undefeated season; etc. A major bummer. Hoping she can recover quickly.

The only coverage the Seattle Times had was skimmed information that some anonymous staffer pulled out of the UW press release. So sad. They used to have real volleyball coverage.

Yeah, the newspaper business is brutal right now. I know a couple reporters and photogs who are on the beach...either laid off or 'bought out' of their employment agreement. And the real tragedy is not sports coverage. It's the real news. Very sad. When Schwan was injured at USC, I was thinking of posting about schools playing on hardwood floors and not using Dynaflex or Teraflex flooring. I was grumbling that Schwan's injury could have been prevented. But now, Gardner is hurt on UW's floor.
