Utah also lost to unranked UC Irvine, but both were early in the season. After that, they beat UCLA and St. Mary's, who are still ranked above them. That is probably why they are still higher than Long Beach. You guys know better than to just look at one match. Pacific will probably make it to Top 25 if they continue their winning ways. It sometimes takes a few weeks to get people's attention. Yes, I'm sure victories in this week matches against Riverside and Fullerton should definitely get everyone's attention.

St. Mary's should probably be ranked higher than they currently are or Stanford should be ranked lower....you all figure it out. Utah was ranked when they came into Long Beach and LBS was unranked....Utah won the 1st game and then got their butts beat in games 2,3,4. UCLA has been less than overly impressive so far this seasonk and UC Irvine has had some injury problems that have changed their starting lineup which probably has affected their play as well....the Northridge "sweep" is still a legitimate road win for LBS, just ask the Northridge folks if you disagree. UOP will be in OUR HOUSE next month, and we will see what the rematch brings

as for hawaii getting 2 first place votes, i'm not sure i can say i agree with that either,.. I agree. I am an avid Hawaii fan and love them back in the top 4 again...WHO'DA THUNK IT!!!! But lets be real. But you never know. Maybe they'll make some noise towards then end...that Rice game, WAC tournament, and that road game to Utah will indicate how they will be come tournament time, which is all the better for me.

I'm actually wondering where these two 1# votes came from and why they came out after road victories against Fresno and Rice. Are tehy prescribing to the off the island philosophy too? Well, I'm flattered about it but now this ranking means we have to put up. We can't just beat teams, we need to take control of every game as a #4 team should.
MODIFICATION I made a mistake, it should be Fresno and Nevada.

I'm also really surprised that the Wahine has moved up to number 4. That is really surprising. I personally don't think the Wahine should be that high. I honestly think being ranked 6th last week was still too high for the Wahine. I feel there are still a lot of teams out there that are better than the Wahine. And one correction from your post Island: Hawai`i played Fresno State and Nevada not Rice.

I'm actually wondering where these two 1# votes came from and why they came out after road victories against Fresno and Rice. You mean Fresno and Nevada, right? The UH vs. Rice match is still over a week away, and will be, in my opinion, the most important WAC match this season [until they meet again in the WAC tournament itself] in terms of the final NCAA tournament selection.

I believe that will be THIS month... Correctomundo, I have forgotten that it was already October.....the match is October 23rd and I can guarantee you that UOP will see a much different LBS team the second time around!

I don't believe that "we need to take control of every game as a #4 team should". WHY? They didn't need to do that to get there. This is the type of pressure that FANS will put on them because they are #4. Let them continue to grow and enjoy themselves on the court. That is why they are still undefeated and able to pull out 5-gamers at the drop of a hat. I am so impressed with this team. I wouldn't put it past this team to make the Final Four, but I definitely think they are among the Top 8 teams in the country. The best part is that there is still so much room for improvement. In terms of seeding, the committee (as I understand it) could care less whether a match was won in 3 or in 5. All they look at is the W or the L. This team is not afraid of being down. They don't play tentatively when they're down. They're able to pull themselves out of slumps mid-game. This team has the will of a champion and it sure is fun to watch them develop.

Size is overrated. You can be big and slow, just look at Pepperdine. Big, slow teams will lose to smaller, more agile teams most of the time, save a lucky match or two.

Size can also be a very good thing if the players have solid skills and the coaches know how to fully utilize those players. USC has been a team that has been able to fully utilize its size (and depth in size too). But come next year, the height presence at the net will go down a notch as we'll lose Adams, and Candelas and Venski a year after that. the new MBs (Copenhagen, Bishop, Tennant) are all 6'2, and they will have to utilize their quickness.
