See? That's about as big a bump as you can expect in the AVCA poll. Texas and OSU both up 7.
That's why St Marys is still below Stanford.
Illinois? C'mon, folks!

I'm going to steal Gorf's thunder. Points gained/lost from previous poll:
1--Washington +47 2--USC +74 3--Minnesota -121 (exactly the sum of Udub and USC's points gained) 4--Hawai'i'i'i'i +73 5--Nebraska +80 6--PSU -82 7--CSU +28 8--Florida -222 (Wow!) 9--OSU +489 (!) 10--UCLA +49 11--Texas +376 (!) 12--Santa Clara +237 13--UCSB -275 (Wow!) 14--Stanford -252 15--TAMU +23 16--KSU +12 17--Cal -309 (!) 18--Tennessee +97 19--St Marys +347 (!) 20--Utah +48 21--Arizona -258 22--Louisville -29 23--LBSU +6 24--Illinois -294 25--FAMU +11
Dropped out:
Colorado -77 Kansas -202

Kinda surprised Pacific didn't make it in... Obviously it was viewed more as a bad sign for UCSB than a good sign for Pacific. UCSB does get the same drop as Long Beach did for the loss, guess it's only fair I figured we might get less drop since it would be less likely to be viewed as a fluke win/loss.

who's still voting usc and minnesota at first?! ok, so washington, minnesota and usc are all good teams, and all may be able to beat one another on any given day, but minnesota has two losses and a 5 game match against rice. usc lost head to head to washington. i agree that washington had a weak preseason schedule, and that any one of those three could be first, but just based on head to head and one degree away, washington should no question be #1, at least for now...
as for hawaii getting 2 first place votes, i'm not sure i can say i agree with that either, even as a hawaii fan. they've gone five with a lot of teams and they've shown that with their backs to the wall they can pull it out, but i think that washington's best win (over usc) is better than hawaii's (over ucla). even ohio state and texas can argue that they've got better wins (though texas went 5 against colorado). hawaii's got a long way to go before i can say that i think they've got a good shot to make the final four (as is now predicted).
i'm not complaining though--i'm surprised and extremely happy with the way the wahine have played and gutted it out. i'm just wary of how their attitude will change as greater and greater expectations are placed upon them...

Oregon State should be getting some votes. Started off slow, but win over San Diego and Nevada, and went 5 with St Marys.
#38 in last Pablo.

This will be a very interesting year. I also cant agree with Hawaii being in the top 4 and getting first place votes. Florida at #8 is a little odd, but seems about right. Maybe they should be one or two spots higher.

UOP should have made it in the top 25, and Stanford should NOT be ahead of St. Mary's and Utah should NOT be ahead of LBS!

What I think is interesting is to look at the points gained/lost by the top conferences (listed in no particular order): Big 12Texas +373 Nebraska +80 TAMU +23 KSU +16 Missouri +14 Colorado -77 Kansas -202 Net +384Only one non-conference game in the Big 12 last week with Texas over Florida. The Texas gain is about equal to the confernce gain. But Florida didn't loss as much (222) as Texas gained. The hit they gave Florida probably could have been worse. Big 10Ohio State +489 Michigan +39 Purdue +15 Wisconsin +6 PSU - 82 Minnesota -121 Illinois -294 Net +52Only one non-conference game in the Big 10 last week with a Michigan win over Notre Dame. Pac 10USC +74 UCLA +49 Washington +47 Stanford -252 Arizonia -258 California -309 Net -649The Pac 10 had two non-conference matches last week, Cal's lost to Santa Clara and Stanford's lost to St. Mary's. So it looks to me, that the Pac 10 did take a pretty big hit for those two losses. So far, it sure doesn't look like they're the conference they have been the last few years. The Santa Clara and St. Mary gain of 584 points is not too far from the conference loss.

I agree... We beat Utah... And yes, Pacific should be in the Top 25! GO BEACH!!! Utah also lost to unranked UC Irvine, but both were early in the season. After that, they beat UCLA and St. Mary's, who are still ranked above them. That is probably why they are still higher than Long Beach. You guys know better than to just look at one match. Pacific will probably make it to Top 25 if they continue their winning ways. It sometimes takes a few weeks to get people's attention.

UOP should have made it in the top 25, and Stanford should NOT be ahead of St. Mary's and Utah should NOT be ahead of LBS! And where should St. Mary's be? Utah beat them. Utah also beat UCLA, and has now won eight straight. Long Beach has only played one game on the road, where they got swept by Pacific. The only win the Beach has against top 25 teams was their four game home match against the Utes (who were rated number 24 at the time). Utah plays Colo. State Oct 15 and LBSU plays UCSB Oct 16. Those matches might give better insight into relative standings.

Long Beach has only played one game on the road, where they got swept by Pacific. . Now, that's not true. They played Cal State Northridge "on the road".
