It's always good to see teams improve, as all teams in the Big West conference improve if the competition remains strong within the conference. Last year Fullerton only managed to defeat UC Riverside in conference. This year, so far, they have wins over UC Riverside and Cal Poly. There's still plenty of season left, and I think there will be plenty of shuffling around before NCAA berths are picked. Thanks for the warning, OldMan. We'll keep an eye on Fullerton! No team should be overlooked in our conference!

I was wondering? Is the Vandals mascot a guy with a can of spray paint? ;D No. But I'm sure Joe Vandal has been depicted as a lot worse. Actually, the thought of him with a can of spray paint is quite funny. Hmm...I wonder what he would do? Back on topic.... We'll see if the Titans can put up some wins against the mid to upper level Big West teams. But hey, when you're looking up from the bottom... there's no place to go but up.

Fullerton has to be better than they have been in the past three season - I guess. I saw this team play several times in the past couple of years and was never real impressed. I think the wins over Cal Poly indicate how bad Cal Poly is more than Cal Fullerton being much better. I am not a huge believer in the Big West in the past 3 - 4 years. Santa Barbara had a nice outfit two years ago, but nobody was very good last year. I think UOP is better, Long Beach is trying to turn a corner, and UCSB has to be respectable, but this is no power conference - believe me.

Well, I guess we have to believe you, because you must be an "expert" with a name like "rocket". I don't think anyone is claiming that the Big West is a "power conference" (whatever that is), but it is a "respectable conference" that usually ends up with a lot of wins against out-of-conference opponents. There are also a lot of us mouthy Big West Volleytalkers, so if you're trying to put the Big West down, expect to have a lot of dissenters! ;D

Pablo has 3 big west teams in the top 20 which by that measure means there can only be about 5 conferences better (I didn't actually look to see what the makeup of the top 20 is by conference to figure out exactly how many, but "respectable" is a good description

I really wish Hawaii was still in the Big West instead of the WAC at least for volleyball. Then the Big West would be a "powerhouse conference". :-D Although the Wahine joining the Pac-10 would be nice too. And when the WAC finally has what seems to be another decent team (Rice), they are leaving the conference. I guess one could argue that Fresno was decent last year also. Why did Hawaii leave again?

The problem for Cal State Fullerton is that their best win is over #85 and they have a loss to #105. Pregress is relative.

Because we signed an agreement saying that all of our sports teams must participate in the WAC whenever possible or when their is a league that encompasses members of the WAC(like the MPSF). When the agreement went into effect, we switched. Hawaii had been in the WAC in most sports for years before we switched. Volleyball was one of the last sports to switch over. I'm not sold on CS-Fullerton either and I agree, it takes more than wins against a few mediocre or average teams to convince me but I don't think that Fullerton is a reflection on the whole of the Big West. There are streaky teams this year that either don't come out all the time or aren't deep. This is one of the shakiest volleyball seasons I have ever seen. Very few top teams possess the killer instinct every night, every game to dominate. There are a lot of talented teams out there, they put it together, they win. They don't, they lose. Pacific is a good example of these Jekyll-Hyde teams. They got trounced in the pre-season and lost to Idaho but are now in a pretty good rhythm right now where I think they could beat anyone outside the top ten. BW has quality wins throughout their conference and whiel they are not part of the Big Three conferences, I don't see a stronger conference after that. And if we characterize who is capable of having two teams with the ability to win the national championship, I'd say the BW has that at least every three years. Outside of the PAC-10, Big 12 and Big Ten, that's probably impossible for any team except for the WCC and that's still a stretch. Didn't see the movie, but the title gave us ammunition for a great sign to hold up at the Fullerton game a few years back: "Dismember the Titans!".... . I have to admit that's pretty funny. As far as heckling or those kind of jabs, if it's creative like that where, even as an opponent you have to chuckle, then it's all good- it even adds to the fun of the game. It's usually the dumber people who have to resort to the personal insults. They're not sharp enough to come up with something clever.
