If the editors wanted to know the "pulse" of volleyball fans, they need not rely on incoming letters to the editor; they need merely to read this board and prepvb.com's boards to know the Tennant pic was ridiculous.

Let's put it this way. 90% of magazine covers with male college sports stars and professional superstars are either wearing their uniforms or a theme picked by the photographer(Shaq with bling bling and streetballer clothes). Increasingly, you are seeing a lot of female athletes being portrayed in much less confining clothing, either on the cover or in the photo shoot section. Why? Because, the male viewership would like as many female athletes out of their uniform as much as possible. Unless they are cruising for musclemags(which also take advantage of showing skin), they really aren't interested in seeing the chiseled bronzed bodies of male athletes. The everyday uniforms of basketball, football and baseball players are usually enough for the average fan. Which brings me to my point. When I see a female athlete, I'm looking for grace, muscle tone, physical gravity and determination...similar qualities that I look for in male athletes. When people who are not fans of the sport in question see a woman on the cover of a magazine, they are usually looking for one thing- is she hot. The younger the better. Tennis is already going down that road with a large amount fawning over barely legals like Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova. Is Volleyball magazine trying to tap into this? Yes. Should they? I don't care. I don't read them anymore for other reasons. This adds another reason for me to not go back.
