Cal State Northride will take on another WAC opponent tonight(their first one was against a very surprising strong team - SMU last month and SMU lost to CSUN in five games) against Fresno St in an hour. These two teams took each other to five games last year and in '02 and it might be that way again tonight. According to the Pablo Rankings Fresno St is ranked higher than CSUN, but are they better? Hmmm, I think just a little bit, but I have a hunch that the CSUN team thinks they're better and are out to win tonight's match after losing a very tight match last year against them Bulldogs(I actually went Fresno to watch that match - it was a good match) which should be a motivating factor for them and to play better too since last week they didn't to well. Looking forward to see how the Matadors will stop Fresno's top player KRISTEN FENTON and of course to see if JEN RYAN and HEATHER FOBIAN of CSUN will be on their game to beat the Bulldogs. The people to watch is probably Tuli Peters and Tiffany Bishop. While Fenton is their big gun, these two players' production will probably decide the match. Cal State Northridge won tonight against WAC Fresno St in four games.
30-19, 30-27, 22-30 and 30-28
CSUN looked sharp but not great in games one and two, but in third game they were a bit draggy while in the last game they were in control most of the time having four point leads throughout game four, but then they started to shift down gears when they leading 26-23 and then Fresno St tied it up at 26 all. When CSUN called timeout when it was tied at 26, each time sided-out just to win a point until CSUN won the last two points. DELANEY MENELL spiked the ball for a sideout for CSUN for a one point lead at 29-28 and then served an ace to seal the game and match for CSUN. The top player tonight for CSUN was none other than Jen Ryan. Good defensive play by the libero Jessika Hammerich.
A win is a win and it was good for CSUN to win even though this match wasn't one to put down in the history books as one of the most memorable matches for CSUN. As for Fresno St they looked good here and there. I was impressed by their three starting outside hitters - Mounia Nihipali, Tuli Peters(I forgot how high she can jump) and local gal from Corona(Inland Empire in So Cal) Christianna Reneau. Reneau is only a freshman and played quite well for Fresno St. As for the setter - Ilima Sam Fong...I like the way she sets even though she's predictable. When the ball is released from her hands her sets have no spin and they're always the same in terms of height and placement - when there was a decent or really good pass from her teammates.
Good job CSUN - hope this makes you feel good and you are ready for your next match in two nights.
Go Matadors!

I'm glad one Big West team had the fortitude to put down a non-conference opponent. Congrats.

GOOD MATCH CSUN -- You played well at UCSB also. Yell loud and let the world know you are here. Thanks SantaBarbarian and UCSBVball for the congrats. I have no problem shouting out to the world that CSUN won or lost - it might annoy some people, but so what. Anyway last night's win was good for CSUN and it's a another start for them to begin another winning streak.
