Hammer, I think you are underestimating Stanford. I think #6 is about right. Of course, we'll see how they stack up against UCLA Friday. #6 is ok because there isn't much difference between teams between #5 and #15 in the rankings anyway. I think Stanford's RPI is around #12. Stanford has holes, like weak LS hitting, middle blockers who are a step slow, mediocre L play. Stanford will really need the Bugg to Hodson connection to work in the NCAA tournament.

Don't bite the bait Stanford fans all teams this season have been inconsistent. In a rivalry match I am just glad we got the W tonight. Now on to UCLA and then the tourney where this Stanford team has just a good of chance to win the title as any team in the country to win the title this season.

Wait, wha?! Cal won a set AT Stanford? All bias aside, do you guys really think that Stanford is the 6th best team in the country? No. All bias aside.

No way ... Michigan would have swept them tonight. Not only that, Stanford won't reach 15 in each of those sets. Michigan has the best players in the nation. Cole is the top RS, setting is topnotch and their back row is fantastic. Knop IMHO is one of the top 3 OHs in the nation. Michigan deserves the #6 ranking more than Stanford, IMHO. Let's not lose our heads. Michigan is definitely not #6.

She might do have to do it alone on some nights, but I think Hodson could carry them to the national semis. Shes that good. Hodson is a great player, national team for sure in her future, but she will not carry this Stanford team to a final four without help. No way. To get to a final four you need a team firing on all cylinders and even then you will be biting your nails.

Burgess has had a tough year offensively, but Howard's 3 kills at .300 aren't too bad- better % than Bricio, though not quite so many swings. Lutz is sometimes slow closing, but Vanjak has turned into one of the best- and most technically sound- blockers in the country. As far as McKenna's libero play, most fans are pretty satisfied- she doesn't make a lot of spectacular plays, and has had some issues during the season with taking charge of the defense, but all and all has been really solid and dependable for a freshman.

Consistency has been an issue for Stanford (and for other teams, as you say). If the Cardinal can get everyone playing well at the same time, they can make a deep run. But if they have an off night in the tournament...

Schonewise sure looked good last night. 9 kills in first set alone. Too bad she didn't have enough supporting cast these last couple years.
One thing that should help the Card this post-season is that they should have less expectation than in the past few years. I hope they can player looser and with less pressure this time.

The surprising thing to me was just how off Bugg's sets were to Burgess. So many were off the net. But Howard was set pretty well. If Bugg can put it all together and set consistently to the pins and the middles, Stanford has as good of a chance as anyone this year.

If an OH is struggling, setters may be under more pressure to deliver a perfect ball and screw up as a result. I suspect this might be one reason Bugg's sets to Burgess have often been off.

No, I think Stanford is the number 3 team this season. Is that what you meant? Yes. Perfect. Who do you see as the two teams that should be seeded in front of them. UW and UW.
